Modern Love

with 16 comments

Before I start this post, I want to leave a message for sponsors and my blogging friends.  I’ll be offline for the next fortnight and back on Monday, February 26th. I’m having a long awaited upper spinal operation which should hopefully reduce pain levels and give me extra movement as well as clearer vision.  It’s not a huge operation but it will require recovery time.   It makes use of modern surgery skills, too, for which I am very grateful!  Sorry, my friends, I won’t be able to ‘like’ posts or make my quirky comments for that couple of weeks.  ❤

*~*~*

There are quite a few superb items out at the moment which have that modern furniture vibe.  I’ve combined three of my current favourites in the scene today.

The building is by unKindness, it’s called Modern Serenity and it’s in the latest Builder’s Box subscription.  This really is a beauty of a house and I’ve included a couple of extra close-ups so you can see how the light will fall inside the building.

There are two main furniture sets here.  The beautiful dressing table/vanity set is by Granola. and you get that in gacha form including texture option HUDs.  Simply lots of class and lots of pastel colour tones – I was using white, peach and pale gold metals.

The other furniture set is a collaboration by Fancy Decor and Commoner called The Modine Collection.  This is gorgeous, there’s a lot of pieces including cushion texture options and you’ll be able to mix n match to your heart’s content!

*~*~*

Lots of long, narrow windows give a feeling of calm and privacy and yet it’s relatively light for all those dark grey concrete tones.  The front door has a good entrance porch and it leads to the large room for open living.

Shake, Rattle and Roll!

with 6 comments

“I said Shake, rattle and roll
I said Shake, rattle and roll
Well, you never do nothin’ to save your doggone soul” ~ Bill Haley & The Comets

The combination of a great new skybox from FOURTH WALL and JIAN’s daft Great Dane puppies were just too good to miss!  The inspiration for the monochrome skybox is a stormy day in Iceland’s capital, Reykjavik. You’ve got storm effects and particle rain falling outside the skybox but inside is nice and cosy.  Also featuring a brilliant new gacha from [ zerkalo ], which has a musical theme with lots of useful décor pieces. Well worth a spin on that.

*~*~*

Here’s  some pictures of the skybox.  There’s a couple of levels with floating stairs up to the platform. Part of the floor dips down with a couple of steps which might be a nice place for a snug, and there’s already a kitchen island to start off your decorating there.  The platform’s rails are made of glass and look very smart.

Here, I managed to catch a lightening flash from the storm, and you can see the icy mountains in the far distance from the top floor platform. It’s rather spectacular and really not all that dark as you’d expect.  There’s also a monochrome version of the  skybox without the storm effects.

The floating stairs which lead to the platform.  The back wall is a comforting darker tone and you’re just on the edge of where the floor dips down a couple of steps.

The top of the Newchurch Thompson Industrial Cabinet, those long glass doors will slide right and left upon touch, to give a number of décor effects.  Beautiful texturing here, and the same can be said of Fancy Decor’s Creepy Canisters – they look good as a set don’t they?  It’d be fun to keep biscuits in them and hand them out to Trick ‘n Treaters back in First Life, kids love that sort of thing.  Imagine Beetle Biscuits – cookies with raisins in them 🙂

Part of the Soy. Corner sofa which is texture change and an unusual shape, and the Zen Creations Japanese Tea set which I adore. The kettle is texture change for a number of grey based designs in stoneware and you can set it to steam gently or steam madly – my culinary sense of humour is satisfied with that.

22769’s wares for INDUSTRIE (an Industrial Bench and Wine Rack) a new event well worth taking a look at.  I discovered a new designer there that I hadn’t come across before – Silence – picked up a couple of really good pieces from them, they have a decent set which includes both furniture and décor.  I’m really loving [ zerkalo ]’s neon pieces which have turned up in various gacha recently.  They make excellent decorations for Modern and Industrial styling.

Natural Industrial Style

leave a comment »

OK, so I’ve invented a new décor style – it’s called Natural Industrial! Perfect for the city with industrial style furniture that’s combined with inspiration from Nature, herself. I’m being a bit daft but I wanted to show you the skybox from Galland Homes that is currently at The Chapter Four. It’s called the Mount Washington. Then there’s been some amazing Industrial style furniture recently, so that is part of the scene, both from Newchurch and Fancy Decor. Then there’s that magnificent wall fountain by unKindness.

I wonder if you would really get away with such an open water feature in a real life flat. Let alone a little French Bulldog leaping in and out of it, plus slurping the water occasionally, it’d be very hygenic *laughs* But fortunately, in Second Life® none of those things matters!

Now let me take you around the skybox.  You land in a hall and to your left is an open plan room with cosy fireplace which you can turn on and off from the panel by the side of it. The walls are beautiful plain plasterwork right now but you can tint them because the skybox is completely modify, and what’s more there’s a notecard to explain how to do it. I really like the ceilings in this skybox, the rooms have a central portion that is cut out and you almost feel that there could be a skylight window there, but even if there isn’t it does give that extra height.  The floors are a even toned warm wood parquet design.

So, if you now look straight ahead, that’ll lead you into a room with a view, literally.  If you click on the window frame you get a choice of real city skylines, I chose London here and you can just see The Gherkin, that iconic shaped tower that we all know and love.  I’m standing in the unfurnished version above.  You have options to use the house for assistance in inputting Second Life® compatible audio streams and/or Quicktime compatible video streams. The house will also store a list of your favourite streams if you wish.  There’s also a Teleport feature which allows you save a series of your favourite SLurl’s into the house’s memory.

In the room with a view, another door on the left leads to a more private room which could be a bedroom and bathroom combination.  The flooring is different in this enclosed room.  The Mount Washington Skybox has a Land Impact of only 24, and don’t forget you can tint those walls. I think it’s a very pleasant and versatile home.

While mum was out…

with 3 comments

A beautiful, feminine room and that’s just what the naughty kitten likes the most! She’s trying on tiara and earrings (with difficulty) and is just about to get her paws on the make-up. Let’s hope mum gets back soon 🙂

The star of the show (apart from the kitten) is the beautiful “Crawford set” by Fancy Decor. Designer, Jake, was inspired to make the set after he’d watched a scene in the television series “Feud” which chronicles the rivalry between Bette Davis and Joan Crawford when they took part in the 1962 film, “Whatever Happened to Baby Jane?”. The marbled art is original and was created by Jake in Real Life using the creative method of marbling paper.

La Gare vintage railway station – refurbished

with 4 comments

*~*~*

As most of Second Life® knows, the 6º Republic Event is on! An amazing Home & Garden extravaganza that happens twice yearly, the theme for this round is Destination:Europe. Each designer chose a European city to take inspiration from. DaD Design chose Paris and made the vintage “La Gare Train Station”.

The above collage shows the station empty. Its beautiful lines are undeniable with the arched windows and doors and the glass covered area for meeting the trains. I put paving under the whole build but you can see where the trains would have arrived at the station, it’s a cut-out piece. Upstairs is reached by a circular iron staircase and doors open onto the balcony where the station sign is located.

Designer, Sheerpetal, kindly sent me a copy of “La Gare Train Station” and challenged me to refurbish it as a house with garden out the back based on an idea by ace photographer and blogger JoJo Deed. It sounded a great idea so armed with lots of recent Home & Garden items by fantastic designers, I set to! Click on the pictures to get the larger sizes.

The space where the railway tracks would end is now a garden, it’s been dug over and planted.  I’ve taken a bit of artistic licence with the tree, as the roof is really glass, but maybe part of it was broken as it’s vintage and the tree could then grow through! An indoor/outdoor living space with intimate corners, seating, fountain and even a pizza kiln.  In other words, there’s lots of space to fit everything in.

*~*~*

You wouldn’t normally leave an opening so here’s a fabulous fence to fill it in.  The fence window adds style and stops the dog getting out, talk about duel purpose! Four sconce on the fence will light that area of the garden for those warm evenings when you just don’t want to stay indoors.

*~*~*

Here’s that colourful sofa, which is plenty big enough for the whole family to lounge around on, not just yours truly and the new kitten.  She’s still so small she can hide amongst the many cushions.  The table’s plenty big enough for the crockery and essential tea set.

*~*~*

Inside and downstairs, I furnished a portion of the room with an elegant new sofa set that the labrador puppy just loves, cheeky thing! So will the rest of the family as soon as we can prise him off it.  There’s even room to park a handy scooter which is great for getting around the Parisian streets.  The other side of the room has enough space for a nice kitchen and upstairs has plenty of area for a bedroom with balcony area.  You could divide that and include a small bathroom at the far end.

La Gare Train Station would make a very pleasant and unusual house for folks who like outside living as much as the indoors.

chez-moi-stone-well-tres-chic

Chez Moi‘s new release for Tres Chic is a beautiful interactive garden stone well. Not only is the well itself stunning, both in textures and in Mesh-ability, but as it’s a coalesced object you can use the butterflies separately.

As there’s a lot of pictures in this post I’m going to do the “read more” thing here!  I’ll also be showing the new gacha “Vintage Patio” made exclusively for upcoming Gacha Garden Event, so read on dear readers.
