Natural Industrial Style

leave a comment »

OK, so I’ve invented a new décor style – it’s called Natural Industrial! Perfect for the city with industrial style furniture that’s combined with inspiration from Nature, herself. I’m being a bit daft but I wanted to show you the skybox from Galland Homes that is currently at The Chapter Four. It’s called the Mount Washington. Then there’s been some amazing Industrial style furniture recently, so that is part of the scene, both from Newchurch and Fancy Decor. Then there’s that magnificent wall fountain by unKindness.

I wonder if you would really get away with such an open water feature in a real life flat. Let alone a little French Bulldog leaping in and out of it, plus slurping the water occasionally, it’d be very hygenic *laughs* But fortunately, in Second Life® none of those things matters!

Now let me take you around the skybox.  You land in a hall and to your left is an open plan room with cosy fireplace which you can turn on and off from the panel by the side of it. The walls are beautiful plain plasterwork right now but you can tint them because the skybox is completely modify, and what’s more there’s a notecard to explain how to do it. I really like the ceilings in this skybox, the rooms have a central portion that is cut out and you almost feel that there could be a skylight window there, but even if there isn’t it does give that extra height.  The floors are a even toned warm wood parquet design.

So, if you now look straight ahead, that’ll lead you into a room with a view, literally.  If you click on the window frame you get a choice of real city skylines, I chose London here and you can just see The Gherkin, that iconic shaped tower that we all know and love.  I’m standing in the unfurnished version above.  You have options to use the house for assistance in inputting Second Life® compatible audio streams and/or Quicktime compatible video streams. The house will also store a list of your favourite streams if you wish.  There’s also a Teleport feature which allows you save a series of your favourite SLurl’s into the house’s memory.

In the room with a view, another door on the left leads to a more private room which could be a bedroom and bathroom combination.  The flooring is different in this enclosed room.  The Mount Washington Skybox has a Land Impact of only 24, and don’t forget you can tint those walls. I think it’s a very pleasant and versatile home.

NY City Basement Living

with 12 comments

*~*~*

KraftWork‘s offering for the quarterly subscription Builder’s Box is the “NY Basement Loft” Skybox. It’s unusual because as well as the superbly meshed interior which includes fireplace, candles and picture, there’s a small garden with steps leading to a tenement surround, just as if you were in the City and had made a good job of utilising every bit of space you could.

Here’s the skybox unfurnished.  It has a footprint of 12 by 23 metres which is big enough for some decent decorating so I went full steam ahead!

*~*~*

I just don’t think you could safely have the bathroom in full view but on the other hand you’d want to air it from time to time by opening the doors to the garden. So I screened it off with partial fretwork screens by Newchurch.   I suppose in real life you could also use that posh glass screening that you can make opaque via an electronic switch.   There’s a large, luxurious shower included here because there’s enough room for a bit of luxury

*~*~*

Just a bit of decorating for the garden and it features KraftWork’s group gift for August, the Puebla Chair which is a tribute to designer Nod’s architectural past.

“As some of you may know I am an architect in real life. The first job I was offered was from a Mexican architect that had long before moved from Puebla, Mexico to São Paulo during the 1960’s. His name was Aurelio Martinez Flores. His work was part of the modernism movement in Brazil that would give shape to generations of designers, including me. It was his ideas that became the foundation for the greatest Brazilian architects in modern times including Isay Weinfeld, Marcio Kogan and Mario Biselli.  This is a replica of  one of his few furniture designs he did and is a Second Life® tribute to a man who both inspired me and gave me, just 20 years ago, my first chance in life to chase a dream.”

*~*~*

The kitchen is small but contains all the essentials such as a good fridge, cooker and hob.  Lots of other industrial and brightly coloured décor adds to the usefulness.  I dare say that if you added more cupboards above the unit you’d get more kitchen paraphernalia in!  I just love that looped bulb by Seven Emporium complete with fittings, it’s the little things that add to the detailing and sense of home.

*~*~*

Here’s the dining area and this is a very cheerful dining table set by BaZar which will rez a number of meals with central decoration.  You can clear up afterwards with just one click, if only it were the same in real life! Multiple trips to the dishwasher and back, wiping the glass clean and rearranging the centrepiece. By the time you’ve finished – especially if you have to wash up without said dishwasher – you’re ready for the next meal to replenish the energy.

*~*~*

Now I thought the best thing to do about the bedroom was to use some sort of a hanging bed or loft bed so that you could have a study area underneath with your computer at the ready.  Fortunately, Goose supplied this great hanging bed which I modified to match the bright colours of the basement.  But can you live with only one wardrobe and one chest of drawers?  I’m sure I couldn’t, at home I’ve got 2 large wardrobes and 3 chest of drawers I’m ashamed to say, and that doesn’t count what I’ve got in the airing cupboard and stored in the attic *laughs*.  The Seven Emporium sign says L O V E and like all good things to do with that activity, you need to turn it on!

*~*~*

The lounge is my top picture but here’s another just to show you the view from the garden door.  Click on any of the four doors and they will individually open and close.  A nice snuggly double set of sofas from Duvet Day, set the bright colour in this otherwise neutral loft.  All the remains for me to say is… would you like to live here?

Take to the Stage!

with 4 comments

“I was faced with a choice at a difficult age
Would I write a book? Or should I take to the stage?
But in the back of my head I heard distant feet
Che Guevara and Debussy to a disco beat”

Pet Shop Boys ~ “Left to my own devices”

KraftWork has made a wonderful stage (currently at Indie Teepee Festival) that has a texture change background HUD, here I’ve put it on plain black but it’s a lot more versatile than that. In essence, I wanted to do a monochrome picture today, it’s not easy to capture all the shading to give a good representation of the scene so I hope I’ve done a reasonable job here.

The main furniture is from Fancy Decor‘s new set – The Dürer Collection (currently at UBER). The collection is influenced by the work of Albrecht Dürer, a painter, printmaker and theorist of the German Renaissance. This was a cultural and artistic movement that spread among German thinkers in the 15th and 16th centuries. Albrecht established his reputation and influence across Europe when he was still in his twenties due to his high quality woodcut prints. His friends included the major Italian artists of his time including Raphael, Giovanni Bellini and Leonardo.

Too glam to give a damn

with 2 comments

I liked the sentiment of this set by Fancy Decor. I’d say it’s about creating what you think constitutes the concept of “Glam” and not to bother about what anybody else says.  I sorted through my recent Home & Garden and came up with some fabulous pieces to match the main set.  If you haven’t visited the Home Show 2017 or would like another look, then you’ve got until July 29th.

Don’t forget, you can click on the picture to view a much larger version.

Lazy Days of Summer

with 2 comments

This picture epitomises the sort of English summer day at the beginning of the season when the grass is still emerald green and the flowers are out in force. There’s a blissful, secure feeling as you relax in the garden with nothing to do but read the newspaper and drink lemonade. It’s one of those moments when you wish you could press a button and stop time for a while. There are many feelings in the human emotional arsenal that aren’t really named in the English language but are in more expressive languages. Here’s a few:-

Forelsket (Norwegian): The indescribable euphoria experienced as you begin to fall in love.

Wabi-Sabi (Japanese): Finding beauty in imperfections.

Gökotta (Swedish): To wake up early in the morning with the purpose of going outside to hear the first birds sing, that expectation of beauty.

Commuovere (Italian): Often taken to mean “heartwarming,” but directly refers to a story that moved you to tears.

Komorebi (Japanese): The sunlight that filters through the leaves of the trees and the feeling it gives you.

Snow on Everything with 22769 ~ [Bauwerk]

leave a comment »

Little Winter Cottage_large front elevation
You can have any Home & Garden item you like as long as there’s snow on it!  22769 ~ [Bauwerk] have released a number of winter sets which are superb. You’ll have to brave 3 Events to get all these but they are well worth lagging around for.

I think this is one of the most enchanting Christmas cottages I’ve seen this year and what’s more, you can get a version without the snowy roof and be able to use it all year round.

Little Winter Cottage_porch

There’s a lovely porch with open/close doors and a huge conservatory that has views to the front and side of the property. A lot of picture windows add to the light effect and make a small prefab spacious.

Little Winter Cottage_side elevation

“Little Winter Cottage”
Contains:
cottage with and without snowtop – LI 50 – 52, footprint is approx 13.0 by 14.0 meters and 9.5 – 10.0 meters in height

Little Winter Cottage_conservatory

Little Winter Cottage_upstairs

Little Winter Cottage_cottage back

The brick walls are decorative landscaping items and they have snowy and non-snowy versions for all the pieces.  Very nice texturing on these with the red brick and gray slate tops. They’d look amazing as a walled garden for very little land impact, you could use a couple of the pillars as a gateway.

Garden Walls_long

“Winter Garden Walls Building Set”
Contains:
long wall with or without snowtop – LI 4 – 6, approx 8.3 meters long,  small wall with or without snowtop – LI 2 – 3, approx 5.6 meters long,  pillar with or without snowtop – LI 2, either

Garden Walls n Snowman

Pick up your cottage and walls from Wayward Winter Market, which runs until the 2nd January.

The snowman on the bench is a Rare from the highly humorous Snowmen Gacha, available to play at The Liaison Collaborative Event which runs until 2nd January.

“Snowmen gacha”
1 Rare and 8 Commons – 3 – 6 LI, bench has 8 single sit animations
Transfer/Modify and 50L$ per play

Now for the decorations. They are available at the Tannenbaum Holiday Market Event which runs until 25th December.

Decoration Containers

“Christmas Decoration Set”
Decorative items only.
Contains:
booktree table, linked and unlinked version – LI 7 for the linked
decoration containers – small, medium, large – LI 2 each
Glassed Candle – LI 3, flame on/off via touch

Glassed candle

I particularly liked the booktree which makes a very amusing decoration for practically anywhere around the house.

Booktree Tables

Other pieces used:

Trees and Shrubs by The Little Branch
Christmas Tree, toys, gifts by Tartessos Arts

Little Winter Cottage_large with walls

Until next time, happy shopping 🙂
