My Tequila Time

with 4 comments

Indio means (I think) a member of any of the indigenous peoples of America or eastern Asia in areas formerly subject to Spain or Portugal and it’s mainly used to describe someone of mostly mesoamerican (Mexican or South American) descent. This new lounge set is the result of a happy collaboration by Fancy Decor and Commoner (I suggest more of this behaviour) and it looks Mexican to me, kinda Aztec.

Now I’ve never visited Mexico (more’s the pity) and I’ve never even tried Tequila so now I’m intrigued. I looked it up on Google and Tequila is distilled from Blue Agave which apparently tastes like honey. You can also use Agave as a sweetener if you grow it yourself and even if you don’t like honey, you’ll like this – ah, the marketing! My favourite advert at the moment is about this cat who is switching a desk lamp on and off with his paw. The accompanying chat goes like this… day, night, day, night, what is this sorcery? A machine that can turn day into night? Madness! And then off he goes to eat his cat food like a sensible chap. A lot of marketing is exactly like this and it takes a wise person to call Madness on it!

Second Life Home & Garden Expo 2019 #4

with 6 comments

The Expo is almost over for this year, it’ll run right through to Sunday April 7th and has Events on that day. It’s been a great fundraiser for the American Cancer Society, so far L$2,168,000 has been collected. With bids coming in for the Auctions and votes for the H&G Decorating contest, no doubt that total will rise.

For my final post, I thought I’d try out a vintage scene featuring an Edwardian dining room.  If you’re into historical roleplay or just love that era of design, this post will be of particular interest.

The Edwardian era ran from 1901 to 1910 and was much lighter in style than the previous Victorian era.  After the heaviness, clutter and dark colours of Victorian interiors, folks wanted something new and cheerful. Edwardian style was a breath of fresh air and featured more informal, feminine décor with the beginnings of pastel colours and floral patterns. Influences at that time were the Art Nouveau and the Arts and Crafts movements and Queen Anne styling. Some influential designers were Thomas Sheraton for furniture, René Lalique for glassware and Louis Comfort Tiffany for lighting.

1. Spargel & Shine on Hope 9

I’m using the downstairs section in the Mathilda Cottage. It’s a beautiful home which is quite compact at 14 by 12 metres and has an open plan ground floor with stairs to the upper floor with its tiled roof and casement windows. There’s also a porch out front. Land Impact is 142 and the Mathilda has a versatile decorator menu, so you’ll be able to change exterior and interior walls and windows to your heart’s content with a great mix of texture options. I went with lilac walls and semi-tinted windows.

There’s also a couple of add-ons available, a window seat and a kitchen!

Second Life Home & Garden Expo 2019 #3

with 6 comments

Today, I’ve got three more creative designers for you from the Expo!

1. First up is LozMac Designs and you’ll find them on Hope 3.  Lulu-Belle (Lilith Sablatnig) runs LozMac and she’s a Real World Artist, too.  Check out her Second Life® creations blog and also on Marketplace.

Lulu’s first Donation item is the Clear Background Wall/Floor Decal textured with “Heart Mandala 1 – Mint & Pink”. This item is a convex prim. The front face and reverse have been textured with Lulu’s art, the rest have been set to clear.  This artwork is equally happy decorating walls as well as floors.

The second Donation item is the Wall Hanging textured with the same mandala design. Complex flowing vines and a plethora of hearts make up this mandala. Other colour versions are available with more to follow. My photograph was taken on advanced lighting so you can see the shininess of the satin texture, depending on what Windlight you choose.  Both pieces are Copy & Modify and have a Land Impact of 1. Naturally, my ragdoll cat had to get in there amongst the posh artworks but you can roughly gauge the size of the products from the size of the kitty!

2. Next up we’ve got Painted Pixels by Designer. Jenny Ashland. They are also on Marketplace. Painted Pixels specialises in small homes that will fit on the smallest of plots. You’ll find them on Hope 1.

Two homes are the Donation items.  Little Living – LI 21 and Boxer – LI 27

Little Living is an open plan, light and airy home on one floor. Glass doors swing open to reveal a ground floor living space with a fabulous full window section at the far end.  A small porch area decorates the front entrance of Little Living and lends itself to pot plants and patio furniture.  Although small, the house feels large inside and with a good garden by the window wall you could extend the feeling of spaciousness. The footprint is 13.8 meters by 6.9 meters and 0.218 meters high.

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Boxer is composed of a living area on the ground floor and a walled garden roof.  Boxer’s size is 2.02 meters by 0.89 meters and 0.16 meters high, there are sliding glass doors to the outside which includes a little courtyard, and steps to a grass covered roof garden at the side of the house.

Boxer has the Easy Texture Changer Pro for windows, walls, trim and doors plus security settings. The windows you can set open or closed for the horizontal windows, and the doors can also be set open or closed. They look as if you’ve got roller blinds on the inside of the windows/doors when closed. There’s texture change for the Outside walls 1 and 2 – green, white, tan and blue. The inside walls of the ground floor room have options of 4 neutral shades. The trim outside has options of green, white, tan and blue. With all these choices you’ll be able to change the house for that individual look.

3.   Last, but not least, our third Designer is GARDEN CENTRE by GC Underwood.  You’ll find GARDEN CENTRE on Hope 4.

There are two 100% Donation items – Love Island and Boxhill

“Love Island” is a beautiful tropical hideaway complete with rocks, palm trees, animated waves and island style décor.  There are over 30 couples poses included in the décor.  Footprint is around 40 meters by 10 meters and the Land Impact is 75.

“Boxhill” is a contemporary concrete industrial style open plan dwelling with glass walls and garage style doors. Indoors, the windows are tinted for privacy. Just click on the outside glass doors to allow them to raise up into the ceiling and reveal the furnishings.  This is a complete product – building and landscaping – that you can simply rez and enjoy.

Relax around the lap pool with elegant landscaping and a flowing fountain that has tranquil noise.  Boxhill is partially furnished with items from Blizzard creations. The bed, sofa, armchairs and garden bench all have couples or single poses. Boxhill can also be used as a sky dwelling by adding extra railings around the edge.

House – 31 prims
Landscaping – 163 prims
Furniture and décor – 113 prims
Total – 307 prims
Footprint – approximately 30 metres by 33 metres

Tasty!

with 13 comments

Gabriel: That gal from the Beeb looks tasty…
Pooper: Those tartlets look tasty…

It was the beginning of another boiling hot summer’s day in Londinium City and Gabriel had finished setting up the Home & Garden scene ready for the photographer. It was all about Fancy Decor’s latest set and it was to be given top billing in the March edition of the prestigious H&G4U magazine.  Not surprising, since it was an accomplished buffet set that dispensed food and drink to guests and was highly suitable for celebratory occasions. He sat down on [Circa]’s Moroccan ottoman, and kicked off his boots.  It was just the right height for a comfortable lounge around, and that wasn’t the only piece he’d used from them. The room was full with [Circa]’s Syndicate Sunday bargain plants, just the way he liked it, and a Moroccan floor lamp from 22769 only added to the sultry theme.

Switching on the stylish Tartessos Arts television set, a very reasonably priced box of tricks, he clicked to the News Channel from the BBBC and fell into a dream as Harriet the reporter talked about products from the latest Equal10 Event.  Now she was tasty!  The efficacy of said products quite passed him by.

Meanwhile, Pooper the puppy had climbed up onto the floating coffee table, knocked off the champagne flutes, and was eyeing up the tartlet tray whilst his master’s attention was fully occupied. His thoughts were of equal tastiness.  We can only hope the photographer gets there in time to remove the pup and restore order because Gabriel is pretty useless at this point!

Fondue for you!

with 4 comments

*click on the picture for a larger version

During the 18th century the origin of fondue began in Switzerland as a way to use aged cheeses and breads to feed families who had limited access to fresh foods during the winter time. Producers of cheese and bread saw their busy season was during the warm months and that the food had to be saved by villagers to be used through the cold winter months. As the cheese would age and the breads became stale it became more difficult to eat. The local villagers found that if they heated the cheese with wines, garlic, and herbs they could dip their stale bread which would soften when dipped into the flavourful cheese mixture. This way of cooking together over one pot and eating by a warm cosy fire became a Swiss winter tradition known as fondue. The word fondue comes from the French word, ‘fondre’, which means ‘to melt’ and has since then been used to reference many other types of fondue for meats, chicken, seafood, and even chocolate.
