Natural Industrial Style

leave a comment »

OK, so I’ve invented a new décor style – it’s called Natural Industrial! Perfect for the city with industrial style furniture that’s combined with inspiration from Nature, herself. I’m being a bit daft but I wanted to show you the skybox from Galland Homes that is currently at The Chapter Four. It’s called the Mount Washington. Then there’s been some amazing Industrial style furniture recently, so that is part of the scene, both from Newchurch and Fancy Decor. Then there’s that magnificent wall fountain by unKindness.

I wonder if you would really get away with such an open water feature in a real life flat. Let alone a little French Bulldog leaping in and out of it, plus slurping the water occasionally, it’d be very hygenic *laughs* But fortunately, in Second Life® none of those things matters!

Now let me take you around the skybox.  You land in a hall and to your left is an open plan room with cosy fireplace which you can turn on and off from the panel by the side of it. The walls are beautiful plain plasterwork right now but you can tint them because the skybox is completely modify, and what’s more there’s a notecard to explain how to do it. I really like the ceilings in this skybox, the rooms have a central portion that is cut out and you almost feel that there could be a skylight window there, but even if there isn’t it does give that extra height.  The floors are a even toned warm wood parquet design.

So, if you now look straight ahead, that’ll lead you into a room with a view, literally.  If you click on the window frame you get a choice of real city skylines, I chose London here and you can just see The Gherkin, that iconic shaped tower that we all know and love.  I’m standing in the unfurnished version above.  You have options to use the house for assistance in inputting Second Life® compatible audio streams and/or Quicktime compatible video streams. The house will also store a list of your favourite streams if you wish.  There’s also a Teleport feature which allows you save a series of your favourite SLurl’s into the house’s memory.

In the room with a view, another door on the left leads to a more private room which could be a bedroom and bathroom combination.  The flooring is different in this enclosed room.  The Mount Washington Skybox has a Land Impact of only 24, and don’t forget you can tint those walls. I think it’s a very pleasant and versatile home.

Marrakech by Moonlight

with 3 comments

I’ve not been to Morocco but it looks a grand place to visit, the buildings and furniture are so exotic, not least the house courtyards which are generally open to the sky with the rooms set around them. Duvet Day‘s latest gacha, currently at Cosmopolitan, is called “Midnight in Marrakech” and includes the themed skybox.

Originally, Morocco’s first independent state was called the Berber Kingdom of Mauretania and that was ruled by the Berber’s clan and documented in 110 BC. Moroccan architecture since then has been influenced by early Islamisation in 788 to 974, Moorish exiles from Spain during the early 8th century to the late 15th century and also by France who occupied Morocco in 1912. Morocco’s varied geography and the long history of the land’s successive waves of settlers and military occupations are all reflected in the architecture. The French placed building standards where the buildings couldn’t be more than four stories high, twenty percent of any planned area had to be courtyards or gardens, balconies couldn’t overlook the neighbours and the roofs of all buildings should be flat. Very interesting because you then see that these regulations not only maintained the existing architecture but also balanced Morocco’s rapid urbanization.

I took photos inside the upper room (decked out as a bedroom), the side of the skybox that enclosed the rooms and stairs, and the courtyard area which, in this case, contains a very nice swimming pool.

RFL Home & Garden Expo 2016 – Sahi Designs, aKa, Spargel & Shine, meadowWorks

with one comment

The RFL Home & Garden Expo 2016 will open to the general public on February 14th and runs to March 6th. It’s the largest and longest running event dedicated to Home & Garden in Second Life™ and raises funds for Relay For Life – The American Cancer Society. Read more about it on their extensive website.  As you can imagine, there’s all sorts of exhibitors from well known brands to up and coming designers, hobbyists and professional merchants. Each exhibitor is required to release two brand new 100% donation items and there’s also a wonderful 50% donation gacha section and even a special hunt!

The Expo is now open!  But don’t worry if you can’t get in at first, you’ve got plenty of time to visit all the sims. Here’s an excellent shopping list by Wendz Tempest showing all the slurls to all the Designers on all the Sims – can’t get better than that.

As Pam asked for some furniture today, well I have some amongst other things!

Sahi Designs – well I couldn’t resist this beautiful tropical themed “Hawaiian Hideaway Hammock” set, it’s one of the 100% Donation items.

It’s texture change for various themes such as Caribbean/Maldives and you can  change hammock, raft and tube and hammock wooden attachment to palm tree. Other options are Set Access, Adjust and Swap. Lots of animations for singles, friends, cuddles, kisses, massages and naughty!

Here’s one of Sahi Designs new releases – the “Winchester Lodge Living Room”. It’s a low prim set packed with animations in the chair and sofa. I think this would please both ladies and gents as far as decor goes and be a diplomatic set for couples!

Sahi Designs - Winchester Lodge Living Room - full

For example… sofa n chairs… texture change for 5 options LI3   LI5,  deer head  LI3,  fireplace LI 9 on/off flames effect,  gunrack LI 7,  chandelier LI 3,   Mesa Rug has 6 texture options.  Lots of animations as for Hawaiian Hideaway Hammock. I loved this set 🙂  Permissions are Copy/Modify. (The house I used to display the furniture is an older one –  Durango Mesh Cabin by Stonewood Homes).

The three 100% donation items are called, “Skyline” and there’s a console table, an antique copper lamp with decorative wire effect and a beautiful light oak chair that has 6 sits. All Copy/Modify.

Spargel n Shine present the  “Bocas Belle”! Tess has outdone herself with this absolutely delicious house.  Bocas Belle is a country or beach home featuring carved wood window details, an open and bright floor plan with a sun room, kitchen area, and an upper loft. A decorator menu allows you to change the interior and exteriors wall colours and includes some vibrant and fun shades to choose from.

Other 100% donation items are a matching shabby white carved wood mirror at LI 3,  and a set of very useful 7 floral rugs at 1 LI each. I photographed just one of them but they’ll all go with the house, according to what wall colours you choose.

Spargel n Shine - Bocas Belle - multi floral rugs set

meadowWorks – Garvie’s got some amazing pieces for us!

These are all 100% Donation items – firstly, the “Rice Paper Swans”. There are 2 versions in the box. Two swans linked to a prim with a rotation script in it (pretty fancy scripting ) and a single swan. But they are all Copy/Modify so Garvie suggests you drag out dozens and dozens and dozens to light up your life on water or land.

meadowWorks - swan lanterns

“Rice paper Lanterns” in lots of colours! Lanterns are a symbol of hope, and wish lanterns in particular are a sort of material representation of a kind of prayer (or wish). There are 5 colours: pink, purple, blue, peach, and yellow, 3 sizes S,M,L and 2 versions rotating (R) and not, so that’s 30 lanterns to sprinkle around.

meadowWorks - lotus lamps

The statue called “Hope” which is inspired by post Emily Dickinson

“Hope” is the thing with feathers –
That perches in the soul –
And sings the tune without the words –
And never stops – at all –

And sweetest – in the Gale – is heard –
And sore must be the storm –
That could abash the little Bird
That kept so many warm –

I’ve heard it in the chillest land –
And on the strangest Sea –
Yet – never – in Extremity,
It asked a crumb – of me.

Garvie says, “I sculpted/assembled this piece “Hope” in January this year, and sold it at a different event (The Chapter Four), but since i never did get around to setting it for sale after the event ended, and all the sims at HGE just happen to be named “Hope” as well, I’ve decided to recycle/reissue it as a donation item. ”

meadowWorks - Hope

And just for a bit of daftness, try meadowWorks gacha – the “Yoga Frogs!”.  Adorable, green, health conscious lil amphibian friends for ponds and lawns.  Here’s four of them practising in the garden!

Fancy a holiday in Stockholm?

stockholmatticadditionalshot1

Barnesworth Anubis aka [ba] has been a long time favorite builder of mine. I’ve got many of his wonderful builds in the way of skyboxes, landscaping pieces, even a garden with built in pond. So I was delighted to hear that the ‘Stockholm Attic’ skybox has been completely Meshed up and is now at December Collabor88 for a truly daft price!

This was one of the [ba] oldest skyboxes and it was fabulous even back then, but this new structure features more three dimensional detailing and even richer textures which gives more depth to an already beautiful design. The arched and round windows make this skybox rather unique, and when combined with the plaster ceilings and walls with blonde wood flooring, takes it into another class of architecture.

stockholmatticadditionalshot3

The backdrop is now simple 3D buildings instead of a flat picture, which definitely adds to the effect of depth. The new skybox has an additional couple of smaller back rooms/spaces suitable for bathrooms, kitchenettes and studies. In addition, we also get a snowy backdrop with snowflake particle effect which would be great for the holidays.

Scripted features include an easy to use central control for access, windows, door and the built in brick fireplace with white mantelpiece.

stockholmatticadditionalshot2

So what’s the damage? Skybox is 58 LI with a 20 by 24 meter footprint. The backdrop and scenery adds a further 11 LI or 22 LI with snow and increases the footprint area to approx 72 by 38 meters. The great thing about all [ba] homes is that it’s easy peasy to customize the walls and floor with tinting or using your own textures – there are copious faces to select via Edit and you can make a really unique home this way. I’ve done that before with ease on many of the [ba] landscaping pieces. Permissions are Copy/Modify so if you make a mistake, rez another copy.

stockholmatticadditionalshot4

And the price? A mere L$188 for the run of the Event, after which the skybox will be available at [ba] mainstore and on Marketplace. So you’re looking for the [ba] Stockholm Attic 2.0 at December Collabor88!

Until next time,
Cheers, m’dears!

[ba] mainstore – why not visit and have a wander around.
[ba] on Marketplace -for your convenience.
