Last of the Summer Wine

with 2 comments

*~*~*

Well I can’t give up on summer just yet!  So here’s a secluded hideaway that looks like a brick wall from the outside but once you’re in there, it’s practically another room!  This is the “Garden Hideaway” gacha by Duvet Day and it’s currently at the Cosmopolitan Event.

While I’m away getting more pies and rounding up the rest of the family, the animals and birds have taken over – as usual!  That pup is either barking at the pheasant or about to take a leap straight onto the table after the apple pie, the hen pheasant has her eye on the stray apples and the robin is searching the plant pots in case there’s any unwary worms or insects. Chaos will ensue any minute now 🙂

Season of mists and mellow fruitfulness!

with 6 comments

I was looking for autumnal quotes and started off with the classic poem by Keats, of which the first line is my title and ended up with…

It’s like going back to school. You know, autumn! Time for ‘Harry Potter’ ~ Robbie Coltraine

Never really thought of it like that but I do like the quote from British actor and comedian, Robbie, since Harry is one of my characters on this blog. I don’t know what he’d say about this beautiful cottage by Raindale which was part of the August Builder’s Box subscription, might be a bit too cosy for Harry.  The premier picture shows the back of the “Avendale Cottage” which has a porch with gazebo, string lights and deck, it’s just the right place for holding tea parties!  Some pictures of the inner rooms follow.

You can just see the porch as you enter the property, and it has a lovely picture window and there’s lots of room, rafters on the ceiling and warm wood flooring.  The next picture is going up the stairs to the bedroom, and the third shows the ceiling rafters, railings and arched window of the bedroom.

*~*~*

Here’s the scene on the porch, and it’s mostly prizes from Raindale’s  “Ellesmere” gacha set, matches everything so well!

*~*~*

And now you can see those delicious cakes in close-up!

*~*~*

I was really impressed with the new trees and bushes from Dysfunctionality. You can texture change them for many colours including all the colours of Fall – faded, red, yellow – those sorts of colours.  They have versions with and without sparkles for different environments.  These horticultural products are often on offer for daft prices like L$50 per set.  The Little Branch’s Sweet Chestnut is in the foreground here.

Natural Industrial Style

leave a comment »

OK, so I’ve invented a new décor style – it’s called Natural Industrial! Perfect for the city with industrial style furniture that’s combined with inspiration from Nature, herself. I’m being a bit daft but I wanted to show you the skybox from Galland Homes that is currently at The Chapter Four. It’s called the Mount Washington. Then there’s been some amazing Industrial style furniture recently, so that is part of the scene, both from Newchurch and Fancy Decor. Then there’s that magnificent wall fountain by unKindness.

I wonder if you would really get away with such an open water feature in a real life flat. Let alone a little French Bulldog leaping in and out of it, plus slurping the water occasionally, it’d be very hygenic *laughs* But fortunately, in Second Life® none of those things matters!

Now let me take you around the skybox.  You land in a hall and to your left is an open plan room with cosy fireplace which you can turn on and off from the panel by the side of it. The walls are beautiful plain plasterwork right now but you can tint them because the skybox is completely modify, and what’s more there’s a notecard to explain how to do it. I really like the ceilings in this skybox, the rooms have a central portion that is cut out and you almost feel that there could be a skylight window there, but even if there isn’t it does give that extra height.  The floors are a even toned warm wood parquet design.

So, if you now look straight ahead, that’ll lead you into a room with a view, literally.  If you click on the window frame you get a choice of real city skylines, I chose London here and you can just see The Gherkin, that iconic shaped tower that we all know and love.  I’m standing in the unfurnished version above.  You have options to use the house for assistance in inputting Second Life® compatible audio streams and/or Quicktime compatible video streams. The house will also store a list of your favourite streams if you wish.  There’s also a Teleport feature which allows you save a series of your favourite SLurl’s into the house’s memory.

In the room with a view, another door on the left leads to a more private room which could be a bedroom and bathroom combination.  The flooring is different in this enclosed room.  The Mount Washington Skybox has a Land Impact of only 24, and don’t forget you can tint those walls. I think it’s a very pleasant and versatile home.

NY City Basement Living

with 12 comments

*~*~*

KraftWork‘s offering for the quarterly subscription Builder’s Box is the “NY Basement Loft” Skybox. It’s unusual because as well as the superbly meshed interior which includes fireplace, candles and picture, there’s a small garden with steps leading to a tenement surround, just as if you were in the City and had made a good job of utilising every bit of space you could.

Here’s the skybox unfurnished.  It has a footprint of 12 by 23 metres which is big enough for some decent decorating so I went full steam ahead!

*~*~*

I just don’t think you could safely have the bathroom in full view but on the other hand you’d want to air it from time to time by opening the doors to the garden. So I screened it off with partial fretwork screens by Newchurch.   I suppose in real life you could also use that posh glass screening that you can make opaque via an electronic switch.   There’s a large, luxurious shower included here because there’s enough room for a bit of luxury

*~*~*

Just a bit of decorating for the garden and it features KraftWork’s group gift for August, the Puebla Chair which is a tribute to designer Nod’s architectural past.

“As some of you may know I am an architect in real life. The first job I was offered was from a Mexican architect that had long before moved from Puebla, Mexico to São Paulo during the 1960’s. His name was Aurelio Martinez Flores. His work was part of the modernism movement in Brazil that would give shape to generations of designers, including me. It was his ideas that became the foundation for the greatest Brazilian architects in modern times including Isay Weinfeld, Marcio Kogan and Mario Biselli.  This is a replica of  one of his few furniture designs he did and is a Second Life® tribute to a man who both inspired me and gave me, just 20 years ago, my first chance in life to chase a dream.”

*~*~*

The kitchen is small but contains all the essentials such as a good fridge, cooker and hob.  Lots of other industrial and brightly coloured décor adds to the usefulness.  I dare say that if you added more cupboards above the unit you’d get more kitchen paraphernalia in!  I just love that looped bulb by Seven Emporium complete with fittings, it’s the little things that add to the detailing and sense of home.

*~*~*

Here’s the dining area and this is a very cheerful dining table set by BaZar which will rez a number of meals with central decoration.  You can clear up afterwards with just one click, if only it were the same in real life! Multiple trips to the dishwasher and back, wiping the glass clean and rearranging the centrepiece. By the time you’ve finished – especially if you have to wash up without said dishwasher – you’re ready for the next meal to replenish the energy.

*~*~*

Now I thought the best thing to do about the bedroom was to use some sort of a hanging bed or loft bed so that you could have a study area underneath with your computer at the ready.  Fortunately, Goose supplied this great hanging bed which I modified to match the bright colours of the basement.  But can you live with only one wardrobe and one chest of drawers?  I’m sure I couldn’t, at home I’ve got 2 large wardrobes and 3 chest of drawers I’m ashamed to say, and that doesn’t count what I’ve got in the airing cupboard and stored in the attic *laughs*.  The Seven Emporium sign says L O V E and like all good things to do with that activity, you need to turn it on!

*~*~*

The lounge is my top picture but here’s another just to show you the view from the garden door.  Click on any of the four doors and they will individually open and close.  A nice snuggly double set of sofas from Duvet Day, set the bright colour in this otherwise neutral loft.  All the remains for me to say is… would you like to live here?

Marrakech by Moonlight

with 3 comments

I’ve not been to Morocco but it looks a grand place to visit, the buildings and furniture are so exotic, not least the house courtyards which are generally open to the sky with the rooms set around them. Duvet Day‘s latest gacha, currently at Cosmopolitan, is called “Midnight in Marrakech” and includes the themed skybox.

Originally, Morocco’s first independent state was called the Berber Kingdom of Mauretania and that was ruled by the Berber’s clan and documented in 110 BC. Moroccan architecture since then has been influenced by early Islamisation in 788 to 974, Moorish exiles from Spain during the early 8th century to the late 15th century and also by France who occupied Morocco in 1912. Morocco’s varied geography and the long history of the land’s successive waves of settlers and military occupations are all reflected in the architecture. The French placed building standards where the buildings couldn’t be more than four stories high, twenty percent of any planned area had to be courtyards or gardens, balconies couldn’t overlook the neighbours and the roofs of all buildings should be flat. Very interesting because you then see that these regulations not only maintained the existing architecture but also balanced Morocco’s rapid urbanization.

I took photos inside the upper room (decked out as a bedroom), the side of the skybox that enclosed the rooms and stairs, and the courtyard area which, in this case, contains a very nice swimming pool.

“Let me take you to the place
Where membership’s a smiling face
Brush shoulders with the stars
Where strangers take you by the hand
And welcome you to wonderland
From beneath their panamas

Club Tropicana, drinks are free
Fun and sunshine, there’s enough for everyone
All that’s missing is the sea but don’t worry
You can suntan!

Castaways and Lovers meet
Then kiss in Tropicana’s heat
Watch the waves break on the bay
Soft white sands, a blue lagoon
Cocktail time, a summer’s tune
A whole night’s holiday!

Pack your bags
And leave tonight
Don’t take your time
Gotta move your feet, don’t you miss the flight!”

Due South

I think there’s a bit further to go to the beach, though, looking at the forest trees ‘n all!  This is the brand new prefab by Galland Homes, it’s called the Savannah and it’s a Southern style beach home.  Absolutely beautiful and yes, the porch is a wrap around affair so you get  more than your fair share of outdoorsy space.

A large home,  it’s recommended for 3072 sq m plots and has a Land Impact of 244, that’s surprisingly low for such a large and detailed property.  Double doors open onto the porch at both front and back of the house.  Downstairs, there’s a family sized room with a blazing fireplace, two other reception rooms, space for a kitchen and a powder room under the stairs – or maybe it’s a good room for Harry when he comes to stay!  The stairs are easy to traverse, even for very tall avatars. Upstairs you get a nice landing with doors off to master suite, two further bedrooms and another room which you could use as you wished, maybe a bathroom or nursery.

On the outside, the shutters have a texture change for black, blue, teal, maroon and grey. I chose the blue here mainly because I had the Ca’Pepe sofa and light from Concept} that matched up rather well.  The colours do change the character of the house, it’s surprising.  Inside, it’s quite possible to re-texture and tint the interior walls, instructions are included. The ambient shadow effect is largely transparent and baked on a plane in front of the texturable wall. Thus, you should be able to change the colour or texture and maintain the baked shadow effects by following the instructions. It is quite a cool décor at the default and so you’d be able to make it much warmer with re-texturing.  I’ll decorate one of the interior rooms this week and link back to this blog post so you can see (what a mess I’ve made of it 🙂 ).

Click on any of the interior light switches and you’ll find all the features of the home, including security.

I think this beautiful prefab is equally at home in the country as it would be down at the beach and if you check out the Galland Homes Flickr, you’ll see the blogger pictures in various environments.
