“Owl,” said Rabbit shortly, “you and I have brains. The others have fluff. If there is any thinking to be done in this Forest–and when I say thinking I mean thinking–you and I must do it.”
― A.A. Milne, The House at Pooh Corner

The Tale of Maplemoor Woods

You won’t find Maplemoor Woods on any map, try as you might. It’s a secret place and you can only get to it through a portal. This portal lets through children and those grown ups who still retain the magic of childhood in their hearts. Maplemoor exists in an eternal late spring where young animals and birds are born and brought up, they make their home in the woods. But they’re not like any creatures you’ve seen before. For instance, they really appreciate afternoon tea! They’re not always polite, as you’ll see in the pictures – the bullfinch has landed on the teatime cake and is not even waiting for his slice to be cut.

Afternoon tea is presided over by the Great Horned Owl, who can move his head all the way around. This is useful to check on visitors who may want an extra place at the table. The mother deer keeps an eye on the proceedings, she has her favourite bridge so she can see everything going on and even if afternoon tea should take place at midnight, she can switch on the lamps. Time has very little meaning in such an enchanted place. Poppies and flowers bloom all the year round and the poppies are not only red but all colours of the rainbow. The ones you see here are yellow.

The kingfisher sits patiently on the portal, his large beak is useful for pulling visitors through, but no doubt he’ll be getting his slice of cake later on. And there’s always a wishing well. Not only for water – as there’s no rivers in the woods – but the well grants wishes to visitors and inhabitants of Maplemoor alike. But be careful what you wish for! And don’t forget, you’ll need an extra wish to get you back home 🙂
