NY City Basement Living

with 12 comments

*~*~*

KraftWork‘s offering for the quarterly subscription Builder’s Box is the “NY Basement Loft” Skybox. It’s unusual because as well as the superbly meshed interior which includes fireplace, candles and picture, there’s a small garden with steps leading to a tenement surround, just as if you were in the City and had made a good job of utilising every bit of space you could.

Here’s the skybox unfurnished.  It has a footprint of 12 by 23 metres which is big enough for some decent decorating so I went full steam ahead!

*~*~*

I just don’t think you could safely have the bathroom in full view but on the other hand you’d want to air it from time to time by opening the doors to the garden. So I screened it off with partial fretwork screens by Newchurch.   I suppose in real life you could also use that posh glass screening that you can make opaque via an electronic switch.   There’s a large, luxurious shower included here because there’s enough room for a bit of luxury

*~*~*

Just a bit of decorating for the garden and it features KraftWork’s group gift for August, the Puebla Chair which is a tribute to designer Nod’s architectural past.

“As some of you may know I am an architect in real life. The first job I was offered was from a Mexican architect that had long before moved from Puebla, Mexico to São Paulo during the 1960’s. His name was Aurelio Martinez Flores. His work was part of the modernism movement in Brazil that would give shape to generations of designers, including me. It was his ideas that became the foundation for the greatest Brazilian architects in modern times including Isay Weinfeld, Marcio Kogan and Mario Biselli.  This is a replica of  one of his few furniture designs he did and is a Second Life® tribute to a man who both inspired me and gave me, just 20 years ago, my first chance in life to chase a dream.”

*~*~*

The kitchen is small but contains all the essentials such as a good fridge, cooker and hob.  Lots of other industrial and brightly coloured décor adds to the usefulness.  I dare say that if you added more cupboards above the unit you’d get more kitchen paraphernalia in!  I just love that looped bulb by Seven Emporium complete with fittings, it’s the little things that add to the detailing and sense of home.

*~*~*

Here’s the dining area and this is a very cheerful dining table set by BaZar which will rez a number of meals with central decoration.  You can clear up afterwards with just one click, if only it were the same in real life! Multiple trips to the dishwasher and back, wiping the glass clean and rearranging the centrepiece. By the time you’ve finished – especially if you have to wash up without said dishwasher – you’re ready for the next meal to replenish the energy.

*~*~*

Now I thought the best thing to do about the bedroom was to use some sort of a hanging bed or loft bed so that you could have a study area underneath with your computer at the ready.  Fortunately, Goose supplied this great hanging bed which I modified to match the bright colours of the basement.  But can you live with only one wardrobe and one chest of drawers?  I’m sure I couldn’t, at home I’ve got 2 large wardrobes and 3 chest of drawers I’m ashamed to say, and that doesn’t count what I’ve got in the airing cupboard and stored in the attic *laughs*.  The Seven Emporium sign says L O V E and like all good things to do with that activity, you need to turn it on!

*~*~*

The lounge is my top picture but here’s another just to show you the view from the garden door.  Click on any of the four doors and they will individually open and close.  A nice snuggly double set of sofas from Duvet Day, set the bright colour in this otherwise neutral loft.  All the remains for me to say is… would you like to live here?

*~*~*

Here’s the Home & Garden products I used in detail:-

Cosmo 4th Anniversary – Home & Garden gifts

with 10 comments

It’s Cosmopolitan‘s 4th Anniversary edition – how times flies!   I remember when this Event was just starting up – Corina has done so well with it, hard work pays off 🙂

Along with all the exclusive goodies, lots of the designers are offering generous free gifts and these are very nice indeed. So here’s a selection of the Home & Garden gifts. If you experience difficulty getting onto the sim (it’s bound to be busy) try very early on in the SL morning. The early bird catches the worm!

Borrowed my pal’s house and did some photography on one of the Linden regions for Premium Members. If you’re just starting up in SL, these are a great choice as you can control the land permissions and make your new home entirely private. This sim had the Tahoe theme.

1. “Weathercock” by Backbone.  Designer Ruvio Cortes makes original Mesh decor, this weathercock is only 3 LI with Permissions of Copy/Modify. The cockerel rotates in a circular motion, stopping every so often, just like the real thing, as he point the arrow to the correct wind direction.

2. “Bird Bath with Robin” by TLC Home Collection. Such a gorgeous piece for only 5 LI. The bird bath and the robin are also included as separate pieces, 4 LI and 1 LI. Permissions are Copy/Modify. The robin sings and he’s animated, too. You can control the sound so that he’s not so piercing lol, although in real life robins sing extremely loudly, especially when defending territories. The water in the bird bath is also animated and any minute now you expect the robin to leap in!

3. “Table with Lanterns” from Bee Designs. This went very well with the house theme and I’d imagine would be great in any number of wooden porches to light things up in the evenings. Close up the detailing is fine, LI 4 and Permissions are Copy/Modify.

4. “Eugenia Chandelier” by Spargel & Shine. A beautiful antique style gold chandelier with a land impact of only 7. It casts a soft candle light for a romantic yet rustic feel. To light or extinguish the candles, click on the centrepiece of the chandelier. If you click and hold for 3 seconds a blue menu appears by which you can change various settings for the light perception, as the desired effects can vary from one environment to another. I’ve taken a couple of photos in different Windlights. Permissions are Copy/Modify.

5. “Decorative Cacti” by CCD Original Mesh. We get two of these beauties. The large pot contains a meaty looking cactus – love it – and the smaller pot has a cactus with pebbles. Both are 3 LI each. Permissions are Copy/Modify but the rezzed size was just perfect.

6. “Mosquito Coil” by Mesh India. Amazing detail in this piece, matches are included and you get a smoke particle effect if you click on/off the coil. Only 1 LI with Permissions of Copy/Modify, shadow included – you must pick up one of these useful items for all beach/camping scenes.

Designer Karthikeyan Engineer makes mesh decorations for the Indian culture and items that are related to India or the sub countries therein. Only started this year, they don’t yet have a mainstore but items can be bought on Marketplace and they are also attending various events. I think this will be an interesting designer to watch for future products!

7. “Four Seasons Road Sign” by Goose. This is another gorgeous piece by Goose. Well worth joining the Goose Inworld group as you get a similarly must have piece each month as group gifts. Plus designer Tyrek has a sale every now and then! The road sign is 6 LI with Permissions of Copy/Modify. It looks good in all lights with that row of bulbs sparkling away.

8. “Gift Cake” by Your Dreams. And who doesn’t like cake? This gorgeous little cake is decorated with a flower and looks good enough… to eat *laughs* Darn, now I’m hungry! Your Dreams specialises in decor for parties and special occasions. The gift cake is only 1 LI with Permissions of Copy/Modify.

Now I have put in the mainstores/Marketplace stores for these good folks BUT remember that you pick up the gifts at the Cosmopolitan Event which is on from today and runs for a fortnight.

Cheers, m’dears 🙂

Hello Tuesday - Fe Style, Minimal, Goose, The Little Branch

Lots of one day bargains!  Hello Tuesday sales day on the Cosmopolitan sim has fashion and furniture aplenty – check it all out on the blog – here.

Fe Style – the Koslov shirt 50% off at 55L each, choice of 11 great colours. I was wearing the mid grey which is a useful colour for a lot of mix n match. There’s 2 Fitmesh sizes plus a small and medium standard size.  I really liked this t-shirt because it drapes well both sides, goes with heaps of jeans/pants and reminds me of the distant summer lol

Minimal – Lugia unisex necklace in gold 50% off at 99L… try it – you might be pleasantly surprised! It has a wonderful adjust feature that includes alterations on many axes so you can fit it just right… anywhere on the neckline. You can even get away with wearing tattoos n all 🙂

Hello Tuesday - Fe Style, Minimal, Goose, The Little Branch 2

Goose – a nice gacha here and it’s only 25L per pull. Cube Sitters gacha.  The cubes have a good batch of poses where you can sit and enjoy the view or simply sit! According to the vendor photo, there’s some great Rares with colour theme choices and prizes for singles, couples and friends. I got one with flowers on which was most appropriate 🙂

The Little Branch – white flowers 1 field – masses of white flowers which come in two shapes… the rounded field and the square field. Love these, they look so opulent. It’s 50% off at 168L. I used only 2 of the rounded field pieces and it was more than enough to fill half the greenhouse.

Hello Tuesday - Fe Style, Minimal, Goose, The Little Branch 3

‘The Little Greenhouse’ is from 22769 ~ [Bauwerk] and I sunk this into the ground, it does have a nice neutral coloured stonework base and there’s all that wrought iron work and glass – makes a smashing landscape piece.

Windlight was – Annan Adored Santaurio

Cheers, m’dears 🙂
