NY City Basement Living

with 12 comments

*~*~*

KraftWork‘s offering for the quarterly subscription Builder’s Box is the “NY Basement Loft” Skybox. It’s unusual because as well as the superbly meshed interior which includes fireplace, candles and picture, there’s a small garden with steps leading to a tenement surround, just as if you were in the City and had made a good job of utilising every bit of space you could.

Here’s the skybox unfurnished.  It has a footprint of 12 by 23 metres which is big enough for some decent decorating so I went full steam ahead!

*~*~*

I just don’t think you could safely have the bathroom in full view but on the other hand you’d want to air it from time to time by opening the doors to the garden. So I screened it off with partial fretwork screens by Newchurch.   I suppose in real life you could also use that posh glass screening that you can make opaque via an electronic switch.   There’s a large, luxurious shower included here because there’s enough room for a bit of luxury

*~*~*

Just a bit of decorating for the garden and it features KraftWork’s group gift for August, the Puebla Chair which is a tribute to designer Nod’s architectural past.

“As some of you may know I am an architect in real life. The first job I was offered was from a Mexican architect that had long before moved from Puebla, Mexico to São Paulo during the 1960’s. His name was Aurelio Martinez Flores. His work was part of the modernism movement in Brazil that would give shape to generations of designers, including me. It was his ideas that became the foundation for the greatest Brazilian architects in modern times including Isay Weinfeld, Marcio Kogan and Mario Biselli.  This is a replica of  one of his few furniture designs he did and is a Second Life® tribute to a man who both inspired me and gave me, just 20 years ago, my first chance in life to chase a dream.”

*~*~*

The kitchen is small but contains all the essentials such as a good fridge, cooker and hob.  Lots of other industrial and brightly coloured décor adds to the usefulness.  I dare say that if you added more cupboards above the unit you’d get more kitchen paraphernalia in!  I just love that looped bulb by Seven Emporium complete with fittings, it’s the little things that add to the detailing and sense of home.

*~*~*

Here’s the dining area and this is a very cheerful dining table set by BaZar which will rez a number of meals with central decoration.  You can clear up afterwards with just one click, if only it were the same in real life! Multiple trips to the dishwasher and back, wiping the glass clean and rearranging the centrepiece. By the time you’ve finished – especially if you have to wash up without said dishwasher – you’re ready for the next meal to replenish the energy.

*~*~*

Now I thought the best thing to do about the bedroom was to use some sort of a hanging bed or loft bed so that you could have a study area underneath with your computer at the ready.  Fortunately, Goose supplied this great hanging bed which I modified to match the bright colours of the basement.  But can you live with only one wardrobe and one chest of drawers?  I’m sure I couldn’t, at home I’ve got 2 large wardrobes and 3 chest of drawers I’m ashamed to say, and that doesn’t count what I’ve got in the airing cupboard and stored in the attic *laughs*.  The Seven Emporium sign says L O V E and like all good things to do with that activity, you need to turn it on!

*~*~*

The lounge is my top picture but here’s another just to show you the view from the garden door.  Click on any of the four doors and they will individually open and close.  A nice snuggly double set of sofas from Duvet Day, set the bright colour in this otherwise neutral loft.  All the remains for me to say is… would you like to live here?

*~*~*

Here’s the Home & Garden products I used in detail:-

Marrakech by Moonlight

with 3 comments

I’ve not been to Morocco but it looks a grand place to visit, the buildings and furniture are so exotic, not least the house courtyards which are generally open to the sky with the rooms set around them. Duvet Day‘s latest gacha, currently at Cosmopolitan, is called “Midnight in Marrakech” and includes the themed skybox.

Originally, Morocco’s first independent state was called the Berber Kingdom of Mauretania and that was ruled by the Berber’s clan and documented in 110 BC. Moroccan architecture since then has been influenced by early Islamisation in 788 to 974, Moorish exiles from Spain during the early 8th century to the late 15th century and also by France who occupied Morocco in 1912. Morocco’s varied geography and the long history of the land’s successive waves of settlers and military occupations are all reflected in the architecture. The French placed building standards where the buildings couldn’t be more than four stories high, twenty percent of any planned area had to be courtyards or gardens, balconies couldn’t overlook the neighbours and the roofs of all buildings should be flat. Very interesting because you then see that these regulations not only maintained the existing architecture but also balanced Morocco’s rapid urbanization.

I took photos inside the upper room (decked out as a bedroom), the side of the skybox that enclosed the rooms and stairs, and the courtyard area which, in this case, contains a very nice swimming pool.

Home & Garden Expo 2017 – My Little Department Store

with 6 comments

*~*~*

What a beautiful store this is, it’s “Verdalina’s Department Store” and is a new release by Spargel & Shine Homes, currently at the RFL Home & Garden 2017 Expo . It’s a classically styled building with three floors, four side rooms, three balconies and a nifty elevator to get you there. It would be great for a shop, business, boutique hotel or even a home! Land Impact is 257 when rezzed and the Footprint is 16 by 24 metres. A chrome light is included so you can put as many copies around as you like. The Elevator is a joy and such fun to use. It’s animated, and does not need reprogramming for every new location. Simply step through the doors and click on the control panel. You’ll automatically go into a pose and a menu will appear asking you which floor you want. Once there, you just click on “stand” at the bottom of your screen and walk out through the doors.

Now I bet you could make an excellent home of this. The rooms would be cosy and not too big and you wouldn’t have stairs to worry about. So, I thought I’d decorate some of the rooms with furniture from the Expo… see what you think!

*~*~*

Here we are on the ground floor which is open plan and contains a central lift. Both sides have large picture windows and side arch windows. This is just a section, really, because there is more space in the opposite direction. I was using the Moroccan set from Bazar. And yes, herons live in Morocco too, I checked!

*~*~*

Here’s a close up with the fire off. Still looks beautiful with the cool, white stones. You can use the suite with gold or silver hints via texture change. I love the tassels on the sofa and carpet.

*~*~*

On every floor, you’re going to have a lift area (at least in the main section). There are sliding doors to the smaller side rooms that go off the main sections. So why not make a feature of this area? The Heron has already pecked the lift doors so that they are opening, revealing the control panel on the wall.

*~*~*

One floor up and we’re in the main section here, with three French windows that open onto a balcony. There’s a lovely feeling of light that flows into the room and it feels airy if you leave a couple of doors open. His and Hers day beds, perhaps!

*~*~*

Finally we’re on the top floor and you can see one of those sliding doors to the side room. The windows have that beautiful wrought iron panel work that casts fancy shadows into the room. Silly me left cookies on the table so you can’t really blame the dalmatian! This makes a nice drawing room or lounge but could equally be a main bedroom.

I hope that’s given you some decorating ideas!

Here’s the Home & Garden items I used in detail, including direct SLurls to the Expo stalls. Items not in the Expo, I’ve noted.

High Tea – Merry Christmas!

with 16 comments

high-tea-1

This is my Christmas post and I’d like to wish you all, dear readers and fellow bloggers, a peaceful and relaxing Holiday time ❤  Thank you so much for reading my posts, your likes and comments. I’ve made quite a few friends this year, just through blogging, it’s wonderful 🙂

So.. High Tea. It’s a bit like High Noon with cakes!  A tradition in my family – and I am really not sure which country it belongs to – but we set the table for tea in the afternoon. It’s generally the days after Christmas as nobody can manage to eat anything else after our gargantuan dinner and we all collapse on the sofa bemoaning our overpacked stomachs and attempt to thrash each other at cards.

high-tea-2

There’s generally Christmas pud, all sorts of cake goodies, crackers to pull and read the daft notices from, and a huge pot of tea!  Goodness, did I have trouble finding virtual Christmas crackers but thankfully Faith blogged them and [CIRCA] saved my table from disintegrating into family disapproval.

RFL Home & Garden Expo 2016 – Aphrodite Shop, Heart Homes & BaZar

with 2 comments

The RFL Home & Garden Expo 2016 is now open and will run to March 6th. It’s the largest and longest running event dedicated to Home & Garden in Second Life™ and raises funds for Relay For Life – The American Cancer Society. Read more about it on their extensive website.  As you can imagine, there’s all sorts of exhibitors from well known brands to up and coming designers, hobbyists and professional merchants. Each exhibitor is required to release two brand new 100% donation items and there’s also a wonderful 50% donation gacha section and even a special hunt!

This is possibly my last Expo post but it’s by no means least – and I’m showing items from Aphrodite Shop, Heart Homes and BaZar.

Aphrodite Shop make all sorts of wonderful and comprehensive furniture and decor sets, often on a theme. These include a lot of family and couples oriented sets, including some very cute nursery sets for babies and toddlers. They are also well known for their interactive kitchenware, centerpieces and themed food items. In addition they make some lovely garden items such as campfires, greenhouses children’s tea party sets and garden tea table sets.

The 100% donation items include a magnificent tiered cake stand with inspirational cupcakes, cookies and larger decorated cakes at the top. The double layered cloth table is also included and you can rez this as a coalesced piece at 25 LI. Permissions are Copy/Modify. Other donation items are the two boxes of inspirational cupcakes and cookies. These open on touch and close again to keep them fresh! Cupcakes are 14 LI and cookies 7 LI. Both are Copy.

Heart Homes are a partner company to Aphrodite Shop, and they sell full room sets of furniture so basically, lounges, dining rooms, bedrooms, bathrooms… in addition there are some gorgeous homes and outdoorsy items like greenhouses and outside tea tables fully set. Some of these are themed, for example holiday lounge furniture, fantasy bathroom, Tuscan country bedroom set. The idea being that if you’re not a stylist, here’s a whole room of furniture already matched and no problem… just rez!

The 100% donation item is the ‘Model’s Bath Tub’, a humorous addition to your home in the shape of a high heeled shoe! The tub is 5 LI and Copy. You need to sit on the tub to fill the bath with plenty of choices – cool or hot steamy water, bubble bath, rose petals red or white, milk and chocolate. After all that, there’s an empty and clean texture which gives you a super shiny bath. Poses are single sits for ladies and gents – 9 and 6 – some of which add props to amusing interactive animations.

BaZar is a well known and long established Home & Garden company run by Ria, whom I had the pleasure of interviewing some while back. A most pleasant person who tries her best to please her customers, of which there are many!

For the 100% donations items, Ria has made the “Glam Closets”, for both ladies and gents. Now you can rez these units separately or simply use the rezzer for the lot which is easier to use when you want the closets lined up properly. Extreme low Land Impact of only 15 for all this F.A.B. You’ve just got to have a wall spare in your bedroom for this lot. There’s two varieties – warm wood and a pristine white wood. I really couldn’t decide which I liked best and I suppose it would depend on your existing decor.

The detailing is wonderful, even a gent’s watch collection and a safe is included. Pick and choose your units or use them all.

BaZar’s Hunt gift is the “GRS Chair”, LI 3, a modern classic with texture change wood and blanket. There’s also a simple version without blanket included in the gift and that drops the LI to 2. There are 6 poses for ladies and gents plus some interactive animations such as reading, drinking coffee and surfing your tablet. Here’s the white wood version by the white Glam Closets and you know you can never get Moz off his computers *laughs*.

Finally, there’s the “Glam Ottoman”. A little beauty at 2 LI, Permissions are Copy/Modify. There’s texture change for beige, leather and softest blue – perfect for various decorations schemes.

Here’s me in a moment of contemplation about… what’s for dinner 🙂 Animations are 9 assorted poses for both ladies and gents plus 8 couples poses. You can also set access on this furniture in case you don’t want some of your friends leaping around on your pristine Ottoman!

~BAZAR~ Forest Dining Set with Pavilion

with 2 comments

Ria Bazar - table top view
The first LTD | THE EVENT of 2016 opens today at 12pm SLT and runs until January 26th! It’s sure to be a winner with many wonderful designs to purchase and enjoy.

Today, I’m showcasing the ‘Forest Dining Set’ by ~BAZAR~ which is an extremely beautiful set that can be used with or without the included pavilion and chandelier.

Ria Bazar - Pavillion

Not only has designer, Ria, made a stunning set visually, it’s also packed with dining animations and a full food menu. All pieces have Permissions of Copy/Modify so the drapes can be tinted, the table stretched up and down according to the number of guests you have but the pieces are also amazingly low prim.

Ria Bazar - indoors side view

The set is made with 100% original meshes.

Ria has thoughtfully provided a rezzable set and a set with individual items in the pack. I used the rezzer because I’m lazy but later on I fiddled with the table and you can stretch it down if you had only 4 guests for instance and it would still look fabulous. The pieces are very low prim – Dining Chairs – LI 2, Pavilion LI 7, Chandelier LI 3, Flower pots LI 1, place settings inc glasses LI 1, wine bottles LI 1, candles LI 1, menu cards – LI 1. You could get away with under 40 LI for a 6 place setting.

Ria Bazar - chairs

The dining chairs have animations for ladies, gentlemen and children. The children’s poses are especially delightful with plenty to keep them occupied! Adjust function ensures a perfect pose for your avatar size.

Ria Bazar - menu card

Each place setting can be individually controlled and the owner of the set can also choose who can access the menu via the Security/Adjust menu. Auto Clear and Auto Save – a useful distance menu that clears place settings when no avatars are around within a preset distance – are further options.

Ria Bazar - place setting close-up

The Pavilion itself has a texture menu for the drapes/curtains and are also tintable. Each candle and the Chandelier is individually clickable on/off. Great for that perfect atmosphere.

Ria Bazar - Chandelier

There’s a large menu available with a good selection of course, drinks and water. You’ll be spoiled for choice!  I rezzed the dining set in a room and also outdoors so you can see the size of the Pavilion, if you choose to have that out. The dining table and chairs look equally good on their own, of course.

Visit LTD | THE EVENT, 12pm SLT today until Jan 26th!

Cheers, m’dears 🙂

Christmas Pavilion

with 4 comments

Before Christmas 2014 fades away to a mere memory, I wanted to do this post both as an personal event in my SL and as a decor project. It was the first Christmas that I shared with my dear husband and friend, Arrchie.  I wasn’t even expecting us to be in SL over the season what with our RL family obligations and all that, but it turned out that we spent a lot of Christmas together enjoying each other’s company and the company of SL friends and family – it was an amazingly joyful time 🙂

We decorated the Pavilion for Christmas as it was the only suitable empty ‘room’ we had at the time. Here’s the first Pavilion post. I think it was about 3 quarters full by the time we got everything in.

There was a wonderful amount of decor available over Christmas, both from events and special offers. The Homes & Gardens designers were on top form and on the LTD blog we were posting non stop every day 🙂  I’m a funny ole sod but I always start with a fireplace! My inspiration initially came from ‘!! Follow US !!’ with one of their seasonal fireplaces and from then on it was easy.

Christmas Pavilion fireplace

Here we are Christmas eve cuddled up on a beautiful cream leather sofa from Warm Animations – love her original animations – plus teddy sitting on the arm. Various decor from Floorplan, Cheeky Pea, N4RS, Storax Tree, Chez Moi, Bazar and Alouette. Don’t think I’ve missed anyone out but if I have, humble apologies.

Christmas Pavilion Christmas Eve

A big part of Christmas decor is to do with feasting. I loved this Christmas tea set from Robin Sojourner – a long time teacher and designer in SL.  It gave out tea and cakes and was very popular! I’m going to be forced to get a less seasonal set now as I miss its ‘host with the most’ qualities. Also the way steam rises from the teacups you’ve just poured out. It’s those little details that go towards making a great decor piece.

Christmas Pavilion table foreground

No Christmas room is complete without a tree. This beautiful decorated Christmas tree by Tartessos Arts came with extra gifts and a train set that went around the base of the tree – most impressive and low land impact, too. It also contained light effects, snow effects and animations. The beribboned mistletoe from Chez Moi had numerous kiss animations attached and that was also rather popular 🙂

Christmas Pavillion tree

Here’s a couple of my favorite Christmas decor items. Firstly, the reindeer carousel from Alouette. When I interviewed designer Scarlet recently for LTD she said this was one of her favorite pieces and that customers have derived a good deal of joy from it. Not surprised as I still have it up. We can have reindeer all year round, can’t we? The other is from Storax Tree and it’s one of Kate’s felines on mats. But this time – he’s cuddled up on a Holiday rug. Extreme cuteness!

That’s all for now. Cheers, m’dears 🙂
