NY City Basement Living

with 12 comments

*~*~*

KraftWork‘s offering for the quarterly subscription Builder’s Box is the “NY Basement Loft” Skybox. It’s unusual because as well as the superbly meshed interior which includes fireplace, candles and picture, there’s a small garden with steps leading to a tenement surround, just as if you were in the City and had made a good job of utilising every bit of space you could.

Here’s the skybox unfurnished.  It has a footprint of 12 by 23 metres which is big enough for some decent decorating so I went full steam ahead!

*~*~*

I just don’t think you could safely have the bathroom in full view but on the other hand you’d want to air it from time to time by opening the doors to the garden. So I screened it off with partial fretwork screens by Newchurch.   I suppose in real life you could also use that posh glass screening that you can make opaque via an electronic switch.   There’s a large, luxurious shower included here because there’s enough room for a bit of luxury

*~*~*

Just a bit of decorating for the garden and it features KraftWork’s group gift for August, the Puebla Chair which is a tribute to designer Nod’s architectural past.

“As some of you may know I am an architect in real life. The first job I was offered was from a Mexican architect that had long before moved from Puebla, Mexico to São Paulo during the 1960’s. His name was Aurelio Martinez Flores. His work was part of the modernism movement in Brazil that would give shape to generations of designers, including me. It was his ideas that became the foundation for the greatest Brazilian architects in modern times including Isay Weinfeld, Marcio Kogan and Mario Biselli.  This is a replica of  one of his few furniture designs he did and is a Second Life® tribute to a man who both inspired me and gave me, just 20 years ago, my first chance in life to chase a dream.”

*~*~*

The kitchen is small but contains all the essentials such as a good fridge, cooker and hob.  Lots of other industrial and brightly coloured décor adds to the usefulness.  I dare say that if you added more cupboards above the unit you’d get more kitchen paraphernalia in!  I just love that looped bulb by Seven Emporium complete with fittings, it’s the little things that add to the detailing and sense of home.

*~*~*

Here’s the dining area and this is a very cheerful dining table set by BaZar which will rez a number of meals with central decoration.  You can clear up afterwards with just one click, if only it were the same in real life! Multiple trips to the dishwasher and back, wiping the glass clean and rearranging the centrepiece. By the time you’ve finished – especially if you have to wash up without said dishwasher – you’re ready for the next meal to replenish the energy.

*~*~*

Now I thought the best thing to do about the bedroom was to use some sort of a hanging bed or loft bed so that you could have a study area underneath with your computer at the ready.  Fortunately, Goose supplied this great hanging bed which I modified to match the bright colours of the basement.  But can you live with only one wardrobe and one chest of drawers?  I’m sure I couldn’t, at home I’ve got 2 large wardrobes and 3 chest of drawers I’m ashamed to say, and that doesn’t count what I’ve got in the airing cupboard and stored in the attic *laughs*.  The Seven Emporium sign says L O V E and like all good things to do with that activity, you need to turn it on!

*~*~*

The lounge is my top picture but here’s another just to show you the view from the garden door.  Click on any of the four doors and they will individually open and close.  A nice snuggly double set of sofas from Duvet Day, set the bright colour in this otherwise neutral loft.  All the remains for me to say is… would you like to live here?

Here’s the Home & Garden products I used in detail:-

Man in the Mirror – 7 Deadly s{k}ins & Vero Modero

“I’m starting with the man in the mirror
I’m asking him to change his ways” MJ

We change a lot of things in Second Life® but skin and face can be a fundamental change in how others see us and how we project our personalities onto the virtual platform.

7 Deadly s{K}ins November group gift is a store voucher for 400 L$. It’s a great start to a new you. I used the “Ace” face applier for CATWA heads via the OMEGA relay. I must say this is one of my favourite 7DS skins, the texturing of the beard and hairbase are wonderful. The face applier gives my CATWA Paul mesh head a balanced look. The eyebrows are neither too arched or too thin. There’s a clean faced version, and a without hairbase version in the face appliers, too. They are very good value considering that at one time we used to pay out 1K for a system skin. I teamed these appliers with an existing system skin which I think was a hunt gift from somewhere. If you can do this, you’ll make a savings but then you might just want to pick up the matching skin  from 7DS anyway, use the DEMO first and see.

I was wearing an outfit from Vero Modero which is pretty well mid season if you don’t want to get into the sweaters and overcoats yet. These are separates – the Andon Jacket that comes with and without t-shirt insert plus the Murat leather pants. There’s a choice of half a dozen t-shirts with various sentiments on them, although the jacket will always be the colour you see. I chose the Love Rocks t-shirt/jacket combo. You can also wear the jacket without the t-shirt so it’s a versatile outfit for not a lot of lindens. The jacket has five sizes from zero to five (I chose the 3 size) and the pants have versions in XS – XL. The medium fitted well under the size 3 jacket/t-shirt combo.  I tried a necklace on with this but it tended to cut the line a bit, so I wore a lapel brooch instead. I quite like the way the neck and chest are slightly bared, it balances up the overall look.  The leather pants, by the way, have really nice back pocket details so you could wear those with another outfit, maybe a tucked in shirt, to show off that feature.

I took the photos in my dressing room – yes I do have one *laughs* – so the furniture in there is nice and restful so I don’t feel rushed while styling outfits. Try it sometimes, it works!

AF – Mission Armoire (Antique) – I admire this piece by Apple Fall, it’s vintage and the doors open and close. The base drawer is meshed open which is appropriate for a dressing room.
Fancy Decor – Ghent Altarpiece (small size) – this goes up on the wall, you can open and close the triptych. One of my favourite stores for décor, this is so colourful and represents the actual thing in real life. Talented designer, is Jake!
N4RS – Nouveau Art Set – Sofa – another vintage set from the 1930s, it matches the wooden floor of the room so well. Pieces include rug, glass wall décor and sofa for up to 2 avatars.
Alouette – Antoinette Floor Length Mirror – try Marketplace for this as I am not sure if the sim still exists.

Another excuse for a massive decorating spree!

After quite a while in our lovely Redgrave ‘Luton Manor’ house, Arrchie n me decided to get a new one for the autumn/winter season – after a huge amount of saving up and restraining ourselves on the clothing front!

We rezzed the reBourne ‘Lake House’ last week and are enjoying decorating it. This sits in a skybox with many pictorial surrounds but you can also rez it on the ground. We decided to skybox it under our platform and make the platform into a huge garden with lake. Arrchie also has a small holding there which I’ll do a post for all on it’s own because I’m proud of his work on it.

Here’s the lounge just started. Out of all rooms in a house if you’ve got a lounge and a bedroom done, then the rest can be achieved gradually.

New House - lounge beginnings

Furniture – Shutter Field, Zerkalo, La Galleria, Dreamscapes

Upstairs we were testing the bath in a highly PG manner! This is ensuite into a beautiful bedroom which we’ve just started to get the main pieces of furniture in and it’ll be a fusion of eastern and boho styling. I do find the wooden flooring and softer coloured walls of this house pleasing when in real life it is bogging down outside and colder than you’d expect for August.

New House - bath

Furniture – reBourne, Cheeky Pea, Dutchie, GDit Decor

Just in case you’re all thinking I’ll be doing no work for ages – well here is the desk!! I’ve always loved this desk by Cheeky Pea. OK, it’s sculpt and a bit primmy but so, so comfortable. Haven’t seen another desk set that would take its place.

That’s all for now.

Christmas Pavilion

with 4 comments

Before Christmas 2014 fades away to a mere memory, I wanted to do this post both as an personal event in my SL and as a decor project. It was the first Christmas that I shared with my dear husband and friend, Arrchie.  I wasn’t even expecting us to be in SL over the season what with our RL family obligations and all that, but it turned out that we spent a lot of Christmas together enjoying each other’s company and the company of SL friends and family – it was an amazingly joyful time 🙂

We decorated the Pavilion for Christmas as it was the only suitable empty ‘room’ we had at the time. Here’s the first Pavilion post. I think it was about 3 quarters full by the time we got everything in.

There was a wonderful amount of decor available over Christmas, both from events and special offers. The Homes & Gardens designers were on top form and on the LTD blog we were posting non stop every day 🙂  I’m a funny ole sod but I always start with a fireplace! My inspiration initially came from ‘!! Follow US !!’ with one of their seasonal fireplaces and from then on it was easy.

Here we are Christmas eve cuddled up on a beautiful cream leather sofa from Warm Animations – love her original animations – plus teddy sitting on the arm. Various decor from Floorplan, Cheeky Pea, N4RS, Storax Tree, Chez Moi, Bazar and Alouette. Don’t think I’ve missed anyone out but if I have, humble apologies.

Christmas Pavilion Christmas Eve

A big part of Christmas decor is to do with feasting. I loved this Christmas tea set from Robin Sojourner – a long time teacher and designer in SL.  It gave out tea and cakes and was very popular! I’m going to be forced to get a less seasonal set now as I miss its ‘host with the most’ qualities. Also the way steam rises from the teacups you’ve just poured out. It’s those little details that go towards making a great decor piece.

No Christmas room is complete without a tree. This beautiful decorated Christmas tree by Tartessos Arts came with extra gifts and a train set that went around the base of the tree – most impressive and low land impact, too. It also contained light effects, snow effects and animations. The beribboned mistletoe from Chez Moi had numerous kiss animations attached and that was also rather popular 🙂

Here’s a couple of my favorite Christmas decor items. Firstly, the reindeer carousel from Alouette. When I interviewed designer Scarlet recently for LTD she said this was one of her favorite pieces and that customers have derived a good deal of joy from it. Not surprised as I still have it up. We can have reindeer all year round, can’t we? The other is from Storax Tree and it’s one of Kate’s felines on mats. But this time – he’s cuddled up on a Holiday rug. Extreme cuteness!
