Book Lovers Retreat

with 6 comments

I went to type Book Lover’s Treat first, and then laughed – because it is!  A real treat for those of us who like to curl up with a good novel or three. This is the “Book Lover’s Retreat” by Newchurch and it’s currently at the ON9 Event.

The entire set has 3 versions – the Retreat itself, a decorated Retreat and a Retreat with décor and foliage.  This makes it very easy to rez – just choose the one you want.  The decorated version has a Land Impact of 37 which includes everything you see in the picture and if you add the foliage, it’s a further 14 Land Impact which is not bad, considering what you get.

One of the great things about this set is the customisation that is possible.   You may resize and edit the retreat, and unlink and re-link pieces as needed, but please note the following as you edit this piece:-

1. Always keep an unedited copy, in case something goes wrong!
2. Close the blinds before resizing.
3. Reset all the scripts after resizing.
4. You may tint any of the parts to better fit your own colour schemes.
5. After resizing, you will likely need to adjust the positions of the animations.
6. You may remove any or all of the books, plants or other décor parts, or add new ones.

Brilliant!  I want one of these in real life with a “Don’t Disturb for at least a Day upon pain of Death” notice firmly nailed to the boards, although I doubt if anyone would read it 🙂

Cheers, m’dears…  and remember to don your sun tan cream 🙂

Ascot Opening Day!

with 6 comments

OK, so Prince Philip wasn’t able to get to Royal Ascot either, bless him! Hope he makes a speedy recovery, he does so well for 96 years old. I least I managed the Races virtually 🙂

This is the “Always Dreaming Men’s Suit” from Heth Haute Couture and it’s the June Group Gift.

You’ll be off to the races in this gorgeous suit featuring a crisp linen jacket, matching blue satin and gold foil waistcoat, silk shirt, bow tie and pocket square, plaid trousers and saddle Oxford shoes. There’s also a monocle, belt, socks, panama hat, boutonnière and walking cane. We even get optional Mesh hands and all the alphas, Heth, you are spoiling us!

The suit will fit most Mesh Bodies (I tried it on ADAM which was fine) and has 5 standard sizes XS – XL. It’s an all-in-one suit so no messing about trying to get everything to fit properly. The prim socks fit into the shoes and disappear into the trouser hem so nothing untoward shows. If you chose to wear it on a Mesh body all you need to do is to make sure the neck fits the collar of the shirt and alpha everything else out except for the hands and neck. You can even wear your Bento hands with this suit.  It really is pretty easy to do that. I wore the Medium version, by the way.

For the hat, you’ll need to wear either hat hair or else a nice hair base. You can resize the hat at a click. I didn’t use the cane in the pictures but it looks very smart with a horse head deco in gold and the cane is a dark wood.

Horse is an Arabian by AKK Horses and the apple bucket is from JIAN‘s Apple Orchard Set.

Small but perfectly formed

*~*~*

The “Stonehurst Redux” house by Galland Homes has a Land Impact of only 26 and it would  fit on a small plot. The floorplan  is beautifully thought out, with a spacious feel thanks to lots of tall windows, an outside balcony, compact internal staircase and open plan living.  Equally at home in the city or the countryside, it’s placed here within a town environment.

*~*~*

I thought it would be fun to furnish the Stonehurst and see how much I could get in.  It was quite a lot as you’ll see.  This is one side of the downstairs living area which is quite adequate to fit in a gorgeous retro compact kitchen from [tia] and minimalist dining set from Cheeky Pea.  The Chihuahua is there for size comparison, at least that’s his excuse waiting on the dining table for scraps!

*~*~*

Over to the opposite side and you can see the stairs going up to the first floor and a cosy lounge area furnished mostly by Revivial and MudHoney in typical Scandi style. There are a lot of windows which do give that indoors/outdoors feel but you could cover some of them with wooden blinds if you wanted to create more privacy in a particular area.

*~*~*

Upstairs now and I only furnished the far side of the first floor, you could fit in loads more. For instance,  a generous sized bed , small study area and small bathroom area behind room screens – they would all slot in easily.  I was really enjoying the two main textures of the walls – wood and stone – they compliment each other and give stability to a home which has a lot of ethereal glass.

The Scarlet Creative daybed (currently part of the Daisy gacha at June Arcade) is a little gem. All that style and work for a mere L$75 play of the machine, I think it was.  It is small (look at the Chihuahua on it) but like the Stonehurst house, it’s perfectly formed!

Here’s a close up on eTNIA‘s stunning retro Chinoiserie Vanity and Decor which is currently at the Vintage Fair and that Event runs to the end of the month. Ethnic and retro combine in this vanity set,  which isn’t always easy.  The Vase and Letters are extras from other designers. All the rest you get in eTNIA’s set and it’s reassuringly low prim.

Sakura Wedding

with 2 comments

Many Japanese weddings are held during the Spring and Fall. The traditional Shinto ceremony honours the kami, the spirits inherent in the natural world. After a purification ceremony using a special branch called the harai-gushi, the priest calls to the gods to bless the couple. The ceremony ends with a ritual sharing of sake from three flat cups stacked on top of one another. Popularly called san-san-kudo, this ritual can be performed any number of ways, depending on family customs. The groom may lead, taking three sips from the first cup, followed by the bride, who also takes three sips from the first cup. Then they move on to the second and third cups. The sake is then offered to the couple’s families.

Newchurch‘s elegant “Shen Wedding Tea Ceremony Set” reminded me of traditional Japanese weddings. However, that’s about the only traditional thing in this wedding! The Red Pandas are tying the knot with the Egret officiating. It’s a large picture so you can see everything so do check that out (click on it), the lacquer work on the furniture set is absolutely beautiful.

Lazy Days of Summer

with 2 comments

This picture epitomises the sort of English summer day at the beginning of the season when the grass is still emerald green and the flowers are out in force. There’s a blissful, secure feeling as you relax in the garden with nothing to do but read the newspaper and drink lemonade. It’s one of those moments when you wish you could press a button and stop time for a while. There are many feelings in the human emotional arsenal that aren’t really named in the English language but are in more expressive languages. Here’s a few:-

Forelsket (Norwegian): The indescribable euphoria experienced as you begin to fall in love.

Wabi-Sabi (Japanese): Finding beauty in imperfections.

Gökotta (Swedish): To wake up early in the morning with the purpose of going outside to hear the first birds sing, that expectation of beauty.

Commuovere (Italian): Often taken to mean “heartwarming,” but directly refers to a story that moved you to tears.

Komorebi (Japanese): The sunlight that filters through the leaves of the trees and the feeling it gives you.

Peachy Keen

with 5 comments

I was fiddling with Windlights again (dangerous, Moz) and came up with this extraordinary one which is a peach dawn as far as I’m concerned. I have seen peach dawns in the East, not so much in the UK, but any dawn on a clear day has the most wonderful feel to it. Birdsong is so lucid at that time of day and meditation, profound.

Very happy to display such beautiful furniture, some of it is time sensitive, however! There’s a couple of pieces here, one from Fancy Decor called the “Whiteout Bed” and one from HEXtraordinary called the “Silver Garland Chandelier” – both of those are specials for Fifty Linden Friday. The Fancy Decor bed will be available at the discounted price through to Sunday and there’s also a Blackout Bed in, yes you’ve guessed it, all black 🙂

Here’s the Home & Garden items in detail:-

A Game of Two Halves

*~*~*

*~*~*

One of the nicest furniture sets at the latest round of The Arcade Event, “The Royce Collection” by Fancy Decor has a total of 17 pieces to collect. Every one of them is a little piece of art so even if you only have a few plays on the gacha, you’re bound to get a couple of gems.

My favourite piece here is the X Bench which is slightly Romanesque in style. You know, I’m not sure if I could put an overall style on this set but somehow, it all gels together in a most delightful way. My second favourite piece is the Royce Chandelier. Even when it’s not lit, the round bulbs give a pleasant glossy tone and the shape is a bit Art Deco to my eyes. And then I like this.. and I like that… you get the idea 🙂

I thought I’d try photographing the set in a fabulous partially open room, so I used part of the Songo Courtyard by Barnesworth Anubis. In front of the loggia, which you can’t see, is a pond which is surrounded by  formal paving, small flights of steps to the sides and clipped topiary shrubs. It’s walled on the remaining three sides and then you enter and leave by a gate at the end of this rectangular build. Quite primmy but well worth the effort.
