The Art of Tea

with 2 comments

What a difference a day makes, especially when the Labs have replaced a vital piece of hardware which meant folks couldn’t log in yesterday!

Today, I felt inspired by this great new gacha from unKindness – it’s the Tea Time Delight gacha, presently at Whimsical.  It has a whopping 18 pieces, 2 of which are Rares, all to do with drinking tea and eating cup cakes. Other cutlery  and quail’s egg pieces are from .Shi, part of 5 sets available at the new round of Shiny Shabby.  These pieces were so beautiful I thought they deserved to be in an art gallery.

Now tell me you don’t want a cuppa and cake after that!

Here’s the pieces I used in detail:-

.Shi – Vintage Flatwear teaspoon and cake fork in bronze
.Shi – Quail Egg Display with Lights
(both from the Noir Minimalist Set, currently at Shiny Shabby)

unKindness – Tea Time Delights gacha, currently at Whimsical

KraftWork
Fontainebleau – Lips Wall Hanging
Simone Spotlight
KraftWork Wall System – Geometric
(all at the Mainstore)

Black Tea Tray & Homage to Tea design – Moz

Last of the Summer Wine

with 2 comments

*~*~*

Well I can’t give up on summer just yet!  So here’s a secluded hideaway that looks like a brick wall from the outside but once you’re in there, it’s practically another room!  This is the “Garden Hideaway” gacha by Duvet Day and it’s currently at the Cosmopolitan Event.

While I’m away getting more pies and rounding up the rest of the family, the animals and birds have taken over – as usual!  That pup is either barking at the pheasant or about to take a leap straight onto the table after the apple pie, the hen pheasant has her eye on the stray apples and the robin is searching the plant pots in case there’s any unwary worms or insects. Chaos will ensue any minute now 🙂

Season of mists and mellow fruitfulness!

with 6 comments

I was looking for autumnal quotes and started off with the classic poem by Keats, of which the first line is my title and ended up with…

It’s like going back to school. You know, autumn! Time for ‘Harry Potter’ ~ Robbie Coltraine

Never really thought of it like that but I do like the quote from British actor and comedian, Robbie, since Harry is one of my characters on this blog. I don’t know what he’d say about this beautiful cottage by Raindale which was part of the August Builder’s Box subscription, might be a bit too cosy for Harry.  The premier picture shows the back of the “Avendale Cottage” which has a porch with gazebo, string lights and deck, it’s just the right place for holding tea parties!  Some pictures of the inner rooms follow.

You can just see the porch as you enter the property, and it has a lovely picture window and there’s lots of room, rafters on the ceiling and warm wood flooring.  The next picture is going up the stairs to the bedroom, and the third shows the ceiling rafters, railings and arched window of the bedroom.

*~*~*

Here’s the scene on the porch, and it’s mostly prizes from Raindale’s  “Ellesmere” gacha set, matches everything so well!

*~*~*

And now you can see those delicious cakes in close-up!

*~*~*

I was really impressed with the new trees and bushes from Dysfunctionality. You can texture change them for many colours including all the colours of Fall – faded, red, yellow – those sorts of colours.  They have versions with and without sparkles for different environments.  These horticultural products are often on offer for daft prices like L$50 per set.  The Little Branch’s Sweet Chestnut is in the foreground here.

Natural Industrial Style

leave a comment »

OK, so I’ve invented a new décor style – it’s called Natural Industrial! Perfect for the city with industrial style furniture that’s combined with inspiration from Nature, herself. I’m being a bit daft but I wanted to show you the skybox from Galland Homes that is currently at The Chapter Four. It’s called the Mount Washington. Then there’s been some amazing Industrial style furniture recently, so that is part of the scene, both from Newchurch and Fancy Decor. Then there’s that magnificent wall fountain by unKindness.

I wonder if you would really get away with such an open water feature in a real life flat. Let alone a little French Bulldog leaping in and out of it, plus slurping the water occasionally, it’d be very hygenic *laughs* But fortunately, in Second Life® none of those things matters!

Now let me take you around the skybox.  You land in a hall and to your left is an open plan room with cosy fireplace which you can turn on and off from the panel by the side of it. The walls are beautiful plain plasterwork right now but you can tint them because the skybox is completely modify, and what’s more there’s a notecard to explain how to do it. I really like the ceilings in this skybox, the rooms have a central portion that is cut out and you almost feel that there could be a skylight window there, but even if there isn’t it does give that extra height.  The floors are a even toned warm wood parquet design.

So, if you now look straight ahead, that’ll lead you into a room with a view, literally.  If you click on the window frame you get a choice of real city skylines, I chose London here and you can just see The Gherkin, that iconic shaped tower that we all know and love.  I’m standing in the unfurnished version above.  You have options to use the house for assistance in inputting Second Life® compatible audio streams and/or Quicktime compatible video streams. The house will also store a list of your favourite streams if you wish.  There’s also a Teleport feature which allows you save a series of your favourite SLurl’s into the house’s memory.

In the room with a view, another door on the left leads to a more private room which could be a bedroom and bathroom combination.  The flooring is different in this enclosed room.  The Mount Washington Skybox has a Land Impact of only 24, and don’t forget you can tint those walls. I think it’s a very pleasant and versatile home.

Heth Haute Couture – August Gifts

with one comment

The August Group Gift by Heth Haute Couture (HHC) is the Ralph Men’s Ensemble.   It’s a cool, preppy style inspired by the real life Spring/Summer 2018 Ralph Lauren Collection.  It features a navy blue lightweight vicuña wool jacket that has gold buttons and HCC Crest details – very smart!  Under that is a white cable knit cardigan waistcoat and yellow button down Oxford shirt.  The yellow cuffs are also included and you can wear them for an optional styling feature.  I’ve shown with and without so you can see the difference.

There’s  designer jeans to match and a pair of white lace-up canvas sneakers.  Now this is an ‘all in one’ outfit, you simply click and wear.  There are 5 Standard Sizes, XS to XL plus an alpha if you are using a system body.  I had the ADAM Mesh Body on which was fine with the size L.  The jeans have a nice brown leather belt attached.  The ensemble also includes couture eye glasses with a handy resizer.

I went to Holly Kai Garden for the photography.  Holly Kai is an art installation set within beautiful landscaped gardens and there are also some art galleries and a central cafe/courtyard area to enjoy.  Lots of places to sit and even interactive art to try out.  It’s well worth a visit and the exhibits change from time to time.  The picture above shows that I’m also wearing the Akeruka – Bento Aron Head which I discovered has a few animations on the HUD so this is the slightly bemused smile, the one where somebody’s telling you a tale that you know is not true but you’re humouring them all the same.  I do like the couture glasses on this face.

This is me floating around one of the interactive art installations, took ages to get that shot because you’re moving relatively fast. Maybe try it out on an empty stomach 🙂

Here I am trying out the Ralph Ensemble to see how well it stands up to sit poses.  Quite well, I think!  There was minimal distortion to the jeans and blazer in the crossed leg pose. I’ve also put the cuffs on because they do make a difference to the overall styling.  The background is part of the cafe/courtyard at Holly Kai Garden, there’s a row of benches which contain solo and couples animations.  Not to mention a handy ice cream vendor 🙂

And this last picture shows The Ralph Men’s Ring, which is the free gift for August. You don’t even need a group for this one.  This is a handsome Mesh men’s signet ring with 5 carat square cut sapphire which is surrounded by white diamonds and set in solid gold. It definitely adds that touch of style to your ensembles! There are two versions includes, with and without rezzer so that you don’t have to struggle to get a great fit.  I moved this around a little bit to fit the ADAM hands but once fitted,  you don’t have to mess with it again.  Heth always includes a pose stand in his vendors, so stand on that and it’ll be easy.  If you use Bento hands, that will take a bit more fitting, right click the ring in Inventory and ‘add’ it to the appropriate finger, then move around to fit.  If you’ve done that correctly, the ring will move on the ‘bone’ of the finger as you use the Bento poses.

Posh Parakeets

with 9 comments

These little parakeets think they are Posh with a capital ‘P’  as they hang out at the Manor! Of course they reckon the owner has put in the handy fencing and water feature especially for them so they can take their morning bath and dry off afterwards 🙂

Featuring the “Manor Fence Set” by unKindness (my new Sponsor – yaaaay!!), currently at the August round of FaMESHed.  This lovely set has Materials enabled to great effect, the slightly rusty railings, shiny fleur-de-lis decoration and weathered stone pillars are a delight.

HEXtraordinary have created the parakeets from their gacha “Parakeet Pals”, and that’s currently at the Gacha Garden Event.  If you ask me, they look like budgerigars so if you’re in my part of the country, we call those spugs. Anyway, there’s lots of differently coloured spugs in the gacha plus a nice cage for them or else they have a posh twig stand to sit on.  Those are Rares and I didn’t get anything to speak of expect for lots and lots of spugs. However, as you can see they would much rather be outside! It is extreme cuteness the way they flap their wings during the animation cycle. In the picture above, the snowy one was flapping at the time having just taken a dip in the “Soothing Fountain” by .peaches. (Deco(c)rate) and it’s anything but Zen with all the tweeting, flapping and squawking when one of them has spent too long in the bathing bowls.

Here’s the scene repeated in a warmer Windlight setting.  That beautiful tree is by Little Branch and it’s a sweet chestnut, that was also in the Deco(c)rate subscription box which is well worth getting, even at the non-discounted price.

I think the owner of the Manor needs to mow the lawn soon, it’s a weekend gardening job 🙂

NY City Basement Living

with 12 comments

*~*~*

KraftWork‘s offering for the quarterly subscription Builder’s Box is the “NY Basement Loft” Skybox. It’s unusual because as well as the superbly meshed interior which includes fireplace, candles and picture, there’s a small garden with steps leading to a tenement surround, just as if you were in the City and had made a good job of utilising every bit of space you could.

Here’s the skybox unfurnished.  It has a footprint of 12 by 23 metres which is big enough for some decent decorating so I went full steam ahead!

*~*~*

I just don’t think you could safely have the bathroom in full view but on the other hand you’d want to air it from time to time by opening the doors to the garden. So I screened it off with partial fretwork screens by Newchurch.   I suppose in real life you could also use that posh glass screening that you can make opaque via an electronic switch.   There’s a large, luxurious shower included here because there’s enough room for a bit of luxury

*~*~*

Just a bit of decorating for the garden and it features KraftWork’s group gift for August, the Puebla Chair which is a tribute to designer Nod’s architectural past.

“As some of you may know I am an architect in real life. The first job I was offered was from a Mexican architect that had long before moved from Puebla, Mexico to São Paulo during the 1960’s. His name was Aurelio Martinez Flores. His work was part of the modernism movement in Brazil that would give shape to generations of designers, including me. It was his ideas that became the foundation for the greatest Brazilian architects in modern times including Isay Weinfeld, Marcio Kogan and Mario Biselli.  This is a replica of  one of his few furniture designs he did and is a Second Life® tribute to a man who both inspired me and gave me, just 20 years ago, my first chance in life to chase a dream.”

*~*~*

The kitchen is small but contains all the essentials such as a good fridge, cooker and hob.  Lots of other industrial and brightly coloured décor adds to the usefulness.  I dare say that if you added more cupboards above the unit you’d get more kitchen paraphernalia in!  I just love that looped bulb by Seven Emporium complete with fittings, it’s the little things that add to the detailing and sense of home.

*~*~*

Here’s the dining area and this is a very cheerful dining table set by BaZar which will rez a number of meals with central decoration.  You can clear up afterwards with just one click, if only it were the same in real life! Multiple trips to the dishwasher and back, wiping the glass clean and rearranging the centrepiece. By the time you’ve finished – especially if you have to wash up without said dishwasher – you’re ready for the next meal to replenish the energy.

*~*~*

Now I thought the best thing to do about the bedroom was to use some sort of a hanging bed or loft bed so that you could have a study area underneath with your computer at the ready.  Fortunately, Goose supplied this great hanging bed which I modified to match the bright colours of the basement.  But can you live with only one wardrobe and one chest of drawers?  I’m sure I couldn’t, at home I’ve got 2 large wardrobes and 3 chest of drawers I’m ashamed to say, and that doesn’t count what I’ve got in the airing cupboard and stored in the attic *laughs*.  The Seven Emporium sign says L O V E and like all good things to do with that activity, you need to turn it on!

*~*~*

The lounge is my top picture but here’s another just to show you the view from the garden door.  Click on any of the four doors and they will individually open and close.  A nice snuggly double set of sofas from Duvet Day, set the bright colour in this otherwise neutral loft.  All the remains for me to say is… would you like to live here?

*~*~*
